The main purpose of this study was to develop an instrument to measure science teachers’ perceived readiness in STEM education. For this purpose, 54 items were written after extensive literature review and interviews with experts. Some of these items were rewritten or omitted as a result of expert opinions and finally 50 items were pilot tested. In the thesis, 306 elementary and secondary science (elementary science, physics, chemistry and biology) teachers participated. To finalize the instrument, out of 50 items in the pilot test, 30 items were retained as a result of factor analysis. The analysis extracted 7 factors for these 30 items. These factors are named as engineering and design, making connections, 21st century skills, local/global problems, performance assessment, STEM interest, and technology usage. With the final version of the instrument, after establishing its validity and reliability, science teachers’ perceptions about their knowledge and skills can be analyzed to understand whether or not teachers can implement STEM education effectively. Also, with the result of this test, weaknesses of teachers can be determined and inservice trainings can be organized accordingly.

Developing teacher learning progressions for K-12 engineering education: teachers’ attitudes and their understanding of the engineering design
Mesutoğlu, Canan; Baran Jovanovic, Evrim; Department of Educational Sciences (2017)
Teachers at the K-12 level have a critical role in including engineering in their instruction. More teachers who are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach science using the engineering design process are needed. Aiming to build tools to measure and track the progress in teacher’ attitudes and their understanding of the engineering design process suggested the use of learning progressions approach. The purpose of the study was to develop two teacher learning progressions for K-12 engineer...
Developing a school based professional development program for improving technological skills and andragogical knowledge of teachers in private night high schools
Aksoy, Afra Nur; Aksu, Meral; Department of Educational Sciences (2018)
To improve the effectiveness of teachers in Private Night High Schools (PNHS), the main purpose of this study was to make the teachers in a particular PNHS participate in a School Based Professional Development (SBPD) program for their needs in educational technologies and adult learning theory (andragogy). This was a case study including quantitative and qualitative data collected through Principles of Adult Learning Scale (PALS), Questionnaire of Educational Technologies (QEdTech), classroom observations,...
Online professional development program for science teachers: a case study
Ateşkan, Armağan; Özden, M. Yaşar; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2008)
The aim of this study was to investigate science teachers’ perceptions about the online teacher professional development (oTPD) program. The research study included two consecutive steps. The first step was related to the design of the oTPD program. With the help of related literature, examples of oTPD programs and expert opinions, an oTPD program was designed. In the second step, ten of the alumni of Bilkent University Graduate School of Education Biology Teacher Education Program participated in a ten wee...
Beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin derslerde soru yöneltme alışkanlıklarının değerlendirilmesi
İnce, Mustafa Levent; Saraç, Leyla (2004-01-01)
The purpose of this study was to examine questioning behaviors of physical education teachers in teaching. In particular, specific questions addressed in this study were the amount and level of questioning in physical education classes, and the effects of gender of the teachers and the school type (public or private) on the amount of asked questions. For this purpose, 24 physical education teachers from elementary (6-8 grade level) and secondary schools were selected. Each teacher’s two class hours were vid...
