Okutan, Ebru
This thesis explores the climate change policies of Germany, China, the United States and Turkey and subsequently provide a comparative perspective on climate change policies before and after the Paris Agreement. The core research question is how policies on global climate change were shaped before and after the Paris Agreement, regarding their triggering points during the process of shaping recent environmental regimes. Regarding this question, the main argument of this thesis is that even climate change policies of countries could be categorized into cooperative and obstructive policies, this thesis argues that climate change policies of countries reflect domestic, economy, the environment, and energy priorities of countries, as well as, their external relations with major players in global climate change regimes. This thesis provides an analysis compromising of seven main chapters. Following the Introduction chapter, the second chapter will covers an analysis of global climate change regime. In the subsequent chapters, the policies of Germany, China, US and Turkey are explored separately in order to provide a comparative analysis. The subsequent chapter will demonstrate a conclusion chapter from explorations. The subsequent chapter will demonstrate a conclusion chapter from explorations.

Russia’s policies on climate change negotiations : in search of a decisive role?
Koşan, Ezgi; Tanrısever, Oktay Fırat; Department of Eurasian Studies (2014)
This thesis analyzes the climate change policies of Russia in order to identify the dynamics behind its strategies with respect to post-2020 climate change regime. Contrary to the views of scholars who consider Russia’s position on climate change as low profile, this thesis argues that Russia seeks to play a decisive role in the formation of a new regime on climate change since it is able to assume new responsibilities and able to adopt its economic structure to a low carbon emission model. In addition to e...
Climate change, agriculture and trade policy: CGE analyses at regional, national and global level
Dudu, Hasan; Gaygısız Lajunen, Esma; Department of Economics (2013)
This thesis investigates the effects of climate change on the Turkish economy by using computable general equilibrium (CGE) models at regional, national and global level. The physical impact of climate change is first translated into yield and irrigation requirement shocks by using a crop-hydrology model developed for this study. Then these are introduced into the CGE models as productivity shocks to investigate their effects on the overall economy. Simulation results suggest that climate change will come i...
Roles of domestic and international factors in climate change policy making
Koşan, Ezgi; Tanrısever, Oktay Fırat; Department of International Relations (2019)
This thesis maps domestic and international factors which are influential on the international climate change politics of countries. Moreover, it seeks an answer to the question of “why domestic factors such as climate change vulnerability and policy readiness are not sufficient to explain the climate change policies of countries?” Based on the review of the existing literature and research of this dissertation, the main argument of the thesis will be as follows: Contrary to the views considering the primac...
Climate change effects on extreme flows of water supply area in Istanbul: utility of regional climate models and downscaling method
Kara, Fatih; Yücel, İsmail (2015-09-01)
This study investigates the climate change impact on the changes of mean and extreme flows under current and future climate conditions in the Omerli Basin of Istanbul, Turkey. The 15 regional climate model output from the EU-ENSEMBLES project and a downscaling method based on local implications from geophysical variables were used for the comparative analyses. Automated calibration algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of Hydrologiska Byrans Vattenbalansavdel-ning (HBV) model for the study catchment ...
Impacts of eutrophication and climate change on phytoplankton community structure, size diversity, and phytoplankton based ecological status
Erdoğan, Şeyda; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Demir, Ayşe Nilsun; Department of Biology (2016)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of climate change and eutrophication on phytoplankton; community structure, mean size, mean variance in size and water quality with two main approaches: i) Space-for-time substitute approach by using snap-shot sampling in 47 from 42 N to 32 N latitude of Turkey. ii) Mesocosm experiment through latitudinal gradient in six countries (Sweden, Estonia, Germany, Czech Republic, Greece and Turkey) using nutrient temperature and depth as main parameters. Mean ph...
