Investigation of blast induced ground vibration and air blast around Uşak Kışladağ gold mine

Tanrıseven, Esra Nur
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of blasting operations conducted in Kışladağ Open Pit Gold Mine on surrounding villages in terms of ground vibration and air shock in the light of commonly used regulations. Moreover, it is aimed to give site specific propagation laws for future blasts and to determine safe explosive amounts that can be blasted at the same time not to exceed safe ground vibration limits in the villages. Kışladağ Gold Mine is located in the middle of three settlements; Gümüşkol, Karapınar and Katrancılar villages. Data are obtained from the monitoring stations located on the paths towards villages. Blasting operations are evaluated under two classes due their different loading and stemming characteristics; production blasts and presplit blasts. For ground vibration and air shock prediction linear regression analysis and multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis are used and their performances are compared by means of statistical parameters. The performances of analyses from both unclassified and classified data according location of blast round in the pit are tested and compared. Different input combinations for multiple linear regression analysis are tested by using scaled distance, charge weight, distance, and elevation difference between blast round and monitoring station. The results indicate that linear regression analysis has better performance for ground vibration prediction and blast round location affects the ground vibration levels. Whereas, for air blast prediction MLR is a better tool and elevation difference has an important effect on air blast levels.

Investigation Of Limestone Formation Damage Kireçtaşi Formasyon Hasarinin İncelenmesi
Baǧci, Suat; Kök, Mustafa Verşan (2002-02-01)
The laboratory studies undertaken to evaluate and understand formation damage in limestone reservoirs were summarized. The influence of brine composition, salinity of alkaline fluid and injection rate on formation damage were evaluated in unconsolidated cores. In limestone formations, formation water, which was used in injection, and artificially prepared brine in various concentrations, caused the permeability reduction. High pH values in produced water caused the permeability reduction and consequently th...
Cautious blast design and monitoring nearby a buried high pressure gas pipeline
Dağaşan, Yasin; Bilgin, Hasan Aydın; Department of Mining Engineering (2014)
Blasting nearby a buried high pressure gas pipeline needs high precision in blast design and careful practice. Although precision of the design is important, simultaneous monitoring plays a crucial role on both controlling the ground vibrations and optimization of the future blasts. Though, there are some other means of measurements, monitoring the blast effects by using blasting seismographs is the most practical method among all the others. In this research, cautious blast design and measurements using bl...
The Influence of different mixture design variables on thermal fatigue cracking of asphalt concrete pavements /
Arabzadeh, Ali; Güler, Murat; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
In this study, in order to investigate the thermal fatigue resistance of naturally-aged asphalt concrete specimens, an experimental setup is developed. Mixture design variables, selected according the superpave method of design, include asphalt content, asphalt type, aggregate type, gradation and modification. In the course of this study, using the developed setup, thermal coefficients and thermal fatigue life of the asphalt concrete specimens are measured. Then, using the analysis of variance tests the sig...
Assessment of open pit dewatering requirements and pit lake formation for Kışladağ gold mine, Uşak-Turkey
Ünsal, Burcu; Yazıcıgil, Hasan; Department of Geological Engineering (2013)
The main purposes of this research are (1) to quantify the dewatering requirements for Kışladağ gold mine (Uşak–Turkey) in order to provide stable and dry conditions for mining during the operational period, (2) to assess the pit lake formation in post-closure period, and (3) to assess the impacts of these effects on groundwater resources. Following the development of the site conceptual model, a numerical groundwater flow model is set up and calibrated under steady state conditions and sensitivity analyses...
Analysis of internal explosion and structural response to blast loading
Turcan, Uğur Can; Ulaş, Abdullah; Serin, Nadir; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
In this thesis, blast overpressure due to internal explosion and dynamic response to this loading of the structure is analyzed. Firstly, theoretical backgrounds of computational procedures are presented. The basic principles of the hydrocodes and semi empirical methods are explained in detail. In the analysis of blast overpressure, partially vented structures are examined. Three different venting areas and three different charge weights are employed in the study. Peak pressure, time and impulse parameters a...
