Effect of grain size and porosity on phonon scattering enhancement of Ca3Co4O9

2015-03-25
Ca3Co4O9 (C-349) samples with average grain sizes ranging from 18 nm to 2 mu m were synthesized using the citrate sol-gel method. PEG 400 was used to vary the particle size and porosity, and the thermoelectric (TE) properties were examined from 300 to 1000 K. Nanostructuring and porosity do not appear to significantly affect the Seebeck coefficient; however, a considerable increase in the resistivity over the entire temperature range was observed, leading to lower power factors for the nano-sized samples. The main effect was observed in the thermal conductivity, which was substantially lower for the nano-sized samples with lower density (0.32 W/m K at 1000 K for the 18-nm sample with a density of 66%) due to grain boundary scattering at the interfaces. The porosity further contributed to a reduction of the thermal conductivity, leading to an increase in the density of scattering regions. The best ZT value was 0.29 at 1000 K for the 18-nm-sized sample.

Effects of Bentonite Combinations and Gelatin on the Rheological Behaviour of Bentonite – Apple Juice Dispersions
Dik, Tunay; Özilgen, Mustafa (Elsevier BV, 1996-11)
Rheological behaviour of bentonite – apple juice suspensions were experimentally determined at 25°C, within the shear rate range of 4.3 to 43.1 s−1with 0.90, 1.33 and 2.66 g/L bentonite mixtures and 0 to 0.25 g/L (on dry basis) gelatin concentrations. The mixtures consisted of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40% 20% and 0% Ca-bentonite and balance Na-bentonite combinations. The experimental data were described with the power law as τ =Kγ.1.56. The consistency index was related to the calcium, sodium and gelatin concentrati...
Effect of Midsynthesis Addition of Silica to the Synthesis Medium on the Properties of MFI-Type Zeolite Membranes
Soydas, Belma; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Culfaz, Ali (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2010-06-02)
Thin zeolite membranes of MFI type were prepared on alpha-Al2O3 supports by midsynthesis addition of silica in a recirculating flow system at 95 degrees C The synthesis was started with the batch composition of 80SiO(2): 30TPAOH:1500H(2)O which was changed to 80SiO(2)center dot 9TPAOH:1500H(2)O by addition of silica Mkt 24, 48, or 72 h Compared to synthesis at constant composition. it is possible to affect the rates of nucleation and crystal growth to obtain membranes with better quality by changing the ove...
Effects of B2O3 addition on the properties of melt-processed YBa2Cu3O7-delta
Topal, Ugur; Ozkan, Husnu (IOP Publishing, 2005-01-01)
Samples of YBa2Cu3O7-delta, having about 30% Y2BaCuO5, were prepared with a melt-process method by adding B2O3 up to 0.5 wt% to the oxides. The structural and superconducting properties of the samples were studied by x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscope, magnetization and magneto-optic techniques. B2O3 additions during the melt-processing enlarge intergrain regions that weaken the conduction links between the grains. T-c drops by 1.0-6.0 K, and at 50 K J(c) decreases from abou...
Effect of impact modifier on the properties of poly (ethylene terephthalate)-organoclay nanocomposites
Yılmazer, Ülkü; Alyamac, Elif (2006-11-30)
The effects of component concentrations and addition order of the components, on the final properties of ternary nanocomposites composed of amorphous poly (ethylene terephthalate) matrix, organically modified clay, and an ethylene / methyl acrylate / glycidyl methacrylate (E-MAGMA) terpolymer were studied. All formulations were prepared by melt compounding of the components with a two-step mixing procedure in a corotating twin-screw extruder. Considering the X-Ray Diffraction, SEM, impact and strain at brea...
Effect of synthesis media pH and gel separation technique on properties of copper incorporated SBA-15 catalyst
Akti, Filiz; Balci, Suna; Doğu, Timur (2019-10-01)
Cu-SBA-15 catalysts were synthesized hydrothermally under acidic and slightly higher acidic conditions via solid separation by either gel filtration or evaporation. XRD (X-ray diffraction) patterns and HRTEM (high resolution transmission electron microscopy) images showed that metal loading caused little changes in the ordered structure of SBA-15. Characteristic structural SBA-15's bonds and acid sites were observed in FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectrums and synthesis under high pH was created chang...
