Cu-SBA-15 catalysts were synthesized hydrothermally under acidic and slightly higher acidic conditions via solid separation by either gel filtration or evaporation. XRD (X-ray diffraction) patterns and HRTEM (high resolution transmission electron microscopy) images showed that metal loading caused little changes in the ordered structure of SBA-15. Characteristic structural SBA-15's bonds and acid sites were observed in FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectrums and synthesis under high pH was created changes in the ranges of silica and silanol groups. Copper incorporation created enhancements more in Lewis acid sites. Metal loading under severe acidic synthesis conditions resulted in improvements in the ordered structure in addition to increases in wall thickness while rise in its concentration caused little structural deterioration. Synthesis with slightly higher acidic conditions although gave a little higher d(100) diffraction, caused little broadening of peak. Positive effects in copper incorporation success by separation through evaporation were supported by XRD, HRTEM images, SEM/MAP (scanning electron microscopy/mapping) and ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy) analyses results; however its accumulation on pore walls did more worsening of textural properties. Formation of CuO, Cu2O and Cu3Si species after evaporation separation was observed with XRD, XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and UV-Vis DR (UV-visible diffuse reflectance) analyses.

Effect of initial water content and calcination temperature on photocatalytic properties of TiO2 nanopowders synthesized by the sol-gel process
Agartan, Lutfi; Kapusuz, Derya; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (2015-12-01)
The effects of initial water content and calcination temperature on sol gel synthesized TiO2 powders were studied. Mother solutions had water/Ti-precursor mole ratios (R ratio) of 1, 5, 10, and 50. Dried aerogels were calcined for 3 h at temperatures of 300, 400, and 500 degrees C to obtain crystallized TiO2 nanopowders in the range of 15-30 nm. PE-scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were employed to investigate the morphological and structural properties of the nanopowders synthes...
Effect of preparation parameters on the performance of conductive composite gas separation membranes
Gulsen, D; Hacarloglu, P; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yılmaz, Levent (2001-02-15)
Mixed matrix composite membranes of a conducting polymer, polypyrrole (PPy), and an insulating polymer, polybisphenol-A-carbonate (PC) were prepared by a combined in-situ polymerization and solvent evaporation. Mixed matrix composite membranes were synthesized to combine the good gas transport properties of conductive polymer, PPy, with good mechanical properties of PC.
Effect of operating parameters on selective separation of heavy metals from binary mixtures via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration
Muslehiddinoglu, J; Uludağ, Yusuf; Ozbelge, HO; Yılmaz, Levent (Elsevier BV, 1998-03-18)
Performance of continuous polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) method was investigated for removal of mercury and cadmium from binary mixtures. This method includes the addition of polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a water soluble polymer to bind the metals, which was followed by ultrafiltration operation performed on both laboratory and pilot scale systems. The influence of various operating parameters such as temperature, metal/polymer ratio, presence of calcium ions and pH on retention of metals and permeate...
Effect of operating parameters on the separation of sugars by nanofiltration
Aydogan, N; Gurkan, T; Yılmaz, Levent (Informa UK Limited, 1998-01-01)
Due to the complexity of fermentation mixtures, separation of solutes and secondary substrates has a special importance. Membrane processes such as nanofiltration may offer good alternatives for the separation of fermentation products or recovery of substrates. For an efficient separation, the membrane type and operating parameters such as feed flow rate, operating pressure, and feed should be optimized. In this study the separation and recovery of sugars were targeted. It was found that with an increase of...
Effect of sodium carbonate on carbothermic formation of hexagonal boron nitride
Akyıldız, Uğur; Sevinç, Naci; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2010)
Effect of Na2CO3 on formation of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) by carbothermic method has been studied by subjecting B2O3-C and Na2CO3-added B2O3-C mixtures to N2 (g) atmosphere. Na2CO3 amount in the mixtures was changed in the range of 0-40 wt. %. Time and temperature were used as experimental variables. Reaction products were analyzed by XRD and scanning electron microscope. Na2CO3 was found to increase both the amount and the particle size of h-BN similar to CaCO3 [1]. Na2CO3 was found to be less effect...
