Ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the determination of phthalate esters in milk. Dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, benzyl butyl phthalate, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and dioctyl phthalate were analyzed in five brands of pasteurized Turkish milk. The efficiencies of the extraction procedure for the analytes were between 66 and 100%. The linear dynamic ranges of the calibration curves were from 0.025 to 1.000 mu g/mL with correlation coefficients exceeding 0.99. The precision of the method is acceptable with relative standard deviation values below 5%. Dibutyl phthalate and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate were commonly observed in milk.

Characterization of the polymer of a dipyrrolyl monomer by pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Ertas, Merve; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Toppare, Levent Kamil (2004-08-01)
In this work, characterization of a homopolymer of succinic acid bis(4-pyrrol-1-ylphenyl) ester prepared by galvonastatic polymerization was carried out by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Although decomposition of the monomer yielding mainly butadionic acid and pyrrole occurred under the galvonastatic polymerization conditions, growth of the polymer through the pyrrole moieties was also achieved, yielding a ladder-type polymer film. The polypyrrole chains contained both quinoid and aromatic units as in ...
Determination of volatile organic compounds in different microenvironments by multibed adsorption and short-path thermal desorption followed by gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis
Oznur, Kuntasal; Deniz, Karman; Daniel, Wang; TUNCEL, SEMRA; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (2005-12-16)
A multiphase assurance approach was developed for the accurate and precise determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in different microenvironments. This approach includes (i) development of a method including adsorption of VOCs onto a multisorbent media followed by short-path thermal desorption (SPTD) pre-concentration and gas chromatography (GC) coupled to a mass spectrometry (MS) quantification, (ii) validation of the sampling and analytical method and (iii) validation of the data using a multid...
Evaluation of phthalate esters in pasteurized milk samples and their packages by gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy (GC-MS)
Şenlik, Damla; Tuncel, Semra; Department of Chemistry (2014)
In this study, the Phthalate Esters, which are specifically Dimethyl Phthalate (DMP), Diethyl Phthalate (DEP), Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Butylbenzyl Phthalate (BBP), Diethlyhexzyl Phthalate (DEHP), and Dioctylphthalate (DOP), were evaluated in the 5 different pasteurized milk samples and their packages that were chosen from the Turkish market. As validated extraction methodology Ultrasound Assisted Dispersive Liquid Liquid Micro Extraction (UA-DLLME) and Ultrasonic Bath Extraction (UBE) were used for the mil...
Determination of selected natural hormones and endocrine disrupting compounds in domestic wastewater treatment plants by liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry after solid phase extraction
Muz, Melis; SÖNMEZ, MARGARET JEANNE M.; Komesli, Okan Tarik; Bakirdere, Sezgin; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2012-01-01)
A new analytical method for the simultaneous determination of two natural hormones (progesterone and estrone) and two selected endocrine disrupter compounds (EDCs) (diltiazem and carbamazepine (Cbz)) was developed by liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) after pre-concentration with solid phase extraction (SPE). Influent and effluent samples taken from five different wastewater treatment plants throughout Turkey namely Hurma/Antalya, Lara/Antalya, Kemer-1 and ...
Determination of germanium by AAS in chloride-containing matrices
Anwari, MA; Abbasi, HU; Volkan, Mürvet; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (1996-06-01)
Interference effects of NaCl on the ET-AAS determination of Ge have been studied. The use of several matrix modifiers to alleviate this problem such as Ni and Zn perchlorates and nitrates, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate are reported. The stabilizing effect of Zn and Ni perchlorates allows the use of high pretreatment temperatures. NaCl is thus thermally volatilized from the atomizer by employing pretreatment temperatures higher than 1500 degrees C resulting in an improved sensitivity. Germanium levels in zin...
