This paper aims to review the 'politics of the intimate' in the Turkish context. By looking at regulations and policy debates in the areas of sexuality, reproduction and family and partnership in the 2000s, it critically analyzes the scope and content of state policies, as well as the policy debates in these areas, from a gender and gender equality perspective. This analysis further emphasizes the interaction between neo-liberalism and neo-conservatism, two political rationalities that have come to play important roles in the shaping or regulation of public and private domains, and the relations within these domains, in the last decade in Turkey. This paper will suggest that given the intermesh of neoliberal and neoconservative rationalities, the noition of gender equality loses its significance, leaving disadvantaged groups open to the detrimental effects of dominant power relations.

If there is structure in discourse, what is the nature of this structure, and what is its complexity? For this purpose, we analyze the relations annotated in the Turkish Discourse Bank,...

Büyükcivelek, Ahmet Burak (Alexandrine Press, 2017-06-01)
This paper explores the dialectical relationship between the Turkish political economy and the physical form and use of Gençlik Parkı (Youth Park) in Ankara. The spatiotemporal analysis starts with the establishment of Gençlik Parkı in 1923 when the park was created to be an intermediary between early republican ideals and society, and ends with the commodification of the park that transformed it into a quasi-public exclusive space under Islamic neoliberalism. It is demonstrated that the historical evolutio...

Türk, Duygu; Yalman, Osman Galip; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2005)
This thesis aims to provide a critical evaluation of the Third Way and its reflections on Turkish politics. The Third Way emerged in the late 1990s with a claim to provide an alternative both to the old social democracy of welfare state period and to neo-liberalism. Based on a specific account of the radically changed world, the Third Way has maintained that the new conditions have rendered the old conceptualizations, as well as the old political positions, invalid. In this sense, this thesis argues that th...
