Cycle spinning, a technique mainly used for wavelet denoising, has also been shown to be successful toward image resolution upscaling in the wavelet domain. We propose a directional variant of the cycle spinning methodology. We obtain estimates of local edge orientation from a wavelet decomposition of the available low-resolution image and use this information to influence the choice of cycle spinning parameters that are employed for resolution upscaling. Our experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms competing methods for a wide range of images offering modest but consistent improvements both in objective as well as subjective terms. Lower computational complexity compared to the conventional cycle spinning is also demonstrated. (c) 2005 SPIE and IS&T.

Broadband absorption enhancement in an uncooled microbolometer infrared detector
Kebapci, Basak; Dervisoglu, Ozgecan; Battal, Enes; OKYAY, Ali Kemal; Akın, Tayfun (2014-05-08)
This paper introduces a method for a broadband absorption enhancement in the LWIR range (8-12 µm), in single layer microbolometer pixels with 35 μm pitch. For the first time in the literature, this study introduces a very simple and low cost approach to enhance the absorption by embedding plasmonic structures at the same level as the already existing metallic layer of a microbolometer pixel. The metal layer comprises the electrode and the arm structures on the body. Even though the periodicity of the plasmo...
Contrast Enhancement of Microscopy Images Using Image Phase Information
Çakır, Serhat; Atalay, Rengül; ÇETİN, AHMET ENİS (2018-01-01)
Contrast enhancement is an important preprocessing step for the analysis of microscopy images. The main aim of contrast enhancement techniques is to increase the visibility of the cell structures and organelles by modifying the spatial characteristics of the image. In this paper, phase information-based contrast enhancement framework is proposed to overcome the limitations of existing image enhancement techniques. Inspired by the groundbreaking design of the phase contrast microscopy (PCM), the proposed ima...
Image resolution enhancement using wavelet domain Hidden Markov Tree and coefficient sign estimation
Temizel, Alptekin (2007-01-01)
Image resolution enhancement using wavelets is a relatively new subject and many new algorithms have been proposed recently. These algorithms assume that the low resolution image is the approximation subband of a higher resolution image and attempts to estimate the unknown detail coefficients to reconstruct a high resolution image. A subset of these recent approaches utilized probabilistic models to estimate these unknown coefficients. Particularly, hidden Markov tree (HMT) based methods using Gaussian mixt...
Column Parallel Incremental Zoom ADC for Uncooled Imaging Applications
Beyenir, Aycan; Akın, Tayfun; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2022-8-11)
This thesis presents a new column-parallel analog to digital converter (ADC) integrated circuit with high precision (20-bit), high signal-to-noise ratio (119.5 dB), low power incremental Zoom ADC architecture and demonstrates its integration to a 384x288 pixel format analog output microbolometer readout integrated circuit (ROIC) with 25µm pixel pitch. The Zoom ADC is a hybrid of a low-resolution successive approximation register (SAR) ADC and a high-resolution Delta-Sigma ADC. The main aim of this design is...
NUMERICAL ESTIMATION OF ENHANCEMENT FACTOR OF SILVER NANOWIRE FILTER FOILS AS SERS SUBSTRATES
Yüksel, Selen; Bek, Alpan; Taşgın, Mehmet Emre; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2023-1-26)
Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) is a surface-sensitive vibrational spectroscopy technique. Highly SERS-active substrates made of nanostructured noble metals have been widely investigated owing their activity to the formation of localized surface plasmon resonances, hotspots, where electromagnetic field is amplified by several orders of magnitude locally. Silver and gold are the two most studied noble metals due to their especially low losses and hence high enhancement factors (EF). Gold is chemical...
