In this study, coarse- (PM2.5-10) and fine (PM2.5) fraction aerosol samples were collected using a dichotomous sampler, and their metallic composition (Mg, Al, Ti, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence. The average crustal enrichment factor (EFc) values of Pb, Cu, SO42-. and Zn are greater than 10 for both coarse- and fine-fraction aerosols, which indicates that anthropogenic sources account for the concentrations of these four elements in both the fractions. In this study, positive matrix factorization (PMF) was used for the source apportionment of PM2.5 mass in the Zonguldak atmosphere. A total of six factors were identified, which can be interpreted as either emission sources or physically meaningful factors. The goodness of the six-factor solution for the PMF model was tested by comparing the measured and the modeled PM2.5 masses. An excellent agreement was found between the measured and the modeled fine masses, which indicates that the six-factor-PMF solution adopted in this study accurately accounts for the observed PM2.5 mass in the city of Zonguldak, the city is located at the middle of the Black Sea coasts of Turkey.

Particulate matter (PM10) in Istanbul: Origin, source areas and potential impact on surrounding regions
Koçak, Mustafa; Zarmpas, P.; Im, U.; Bougiatioti, A.; Yenigun, O.; Mihalopoulos, N. (2011-12-01)
Water-soluble ions (Cl-, NO3-, SO42-, C2O4-, Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+,Ca2+), water soluble organic carbon (WSOC), organic and elemental carbon (OC, EC) and trace metals (Al, Ca, Ti, V. Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb) were measured in aerosol PM10 samples above the megacity of Istanbul between November 2007 and June 2009. Source apportionment analysis using Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) indicates that approximately 80% of the PM10 is anthropogenic in origin (secondary, refuse incineration, fuel oil and s...
Trace element and major ion composition of wet and dry depositon in Ankara Turkey
Kaya, Güven; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal (1997-12-01)
Daily, wet-only precipitation samples collected over a two year period were analyzed for SO42-, NO3-, Cl-, NH4+, H+, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Al, Cu, Cd, Cr, Zn, V and Ni. Weekly dry-deposition samples collected on petri-dishes over the same period were analyzed only for major ions. Concentrations of ions and elements in Ankara precipitation are comparable with concentrations reported in literature for other urban areas. However, the wet deposition fluxes are the lowest among literature values, owing to small annual ...
Thermal degradation of Polylactide/Poly(ethylene glycol) fibers and composite fibers involving organoclay
Ozdemir, Esra; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2018-01-01)
In this study, electrospun fibers of melt blended poly(lactic acid) and poly(ethylene glycol), (PLA)-PEG blends involving 10, 15 and 20 wt% PEG and their corresponding composites with organically modified montmorillonite, Cloisite 30B were prepared and characterized by x-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry techniques. The narrower fiber diameters observed for the PLA-PEG fibers involving organoclay compared to the corresponding neat fib...
Influence of the sol-gel preparation method on the photocatalytic NO oxidation performance of TiO2/Al2O3 binary oxides
Polat, Meryem; Soylu, Asli M.; Altunöz Erdoğan, Deniz; Erguven, Huseyin; Vovk, Evgeny I.; Ozensoy, Emrah (2015-03-01)
In the current work, TiO2/Al2O3 binary oxide photocatalysts were synthesized via two different sol-gel protocols (P1 and P2), where various TiO2 to Al2O3 mole ratios (0.5 and 1.0) and calcination temperatures (150-1000 degrees C) were utilized in the synthesis. Structural characterization of the synthesized binary oxide photocatalysts was also performed via BET surface area analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The photocatalytic NO(g) oxidation performances of these binary oxides were m...
Catalytic oxidation of nitrogen containing compounds for nitrogen determination
Karakaş, Gürkan (2019-02-15)
The high temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO) performance of Al2O3 supported Pt, Cu, Cu-Ce and Fe catalysts were systematically studied with a perspective of selective oxidation of nitrogenous compounds to nitric oxide for quantitative determination of bound nitrogen. The catalyst samples were prepared via impregnation and characterized by XRD and BET. In addition, temperature programmed reaction experiments with acetonitrile and oxygen were conducted to evaluate the catalytic activity and selectivity tow...
