The effects of initial water content and calcination temperature on sol gel synthesized TiO2 powders were studied. Mother solutions had water/Ti-precursor mole ratios (R ratio) of 1, 5, 10, and 50. Dried aerogels were calcined for 3 h at temperatures of 300, 400, and 500 degrees C to obtain crystallized TiO2 nanopowders in the range of 15-30 nm. PE-scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were employed to investigate the morphological and structural properties of the nanopowders synthesized. Profound effect of gel viscosity was observed on the formation mechanism and extent of crystallinity in the powders. Methylene blue degradation test results suggest, photocatalytic performance is enhanced as initial water content and calcination temperature increased. Band-gap energy of the powders ranged from 3.09 to 3.27 eV. Overall, this study shows that initial water content and calcination regime have a profound effect on the phase assembly, crystallite size, band-gap energy, and photocatalytic performance of sol gel synthesized TiO2 nanopowders. Effect of synthesis media pH and gel separation technique on properties of copper incorporated SBA-15 catalyst
Akti, Filiz; Balci, Suna; Doğu, Timur (2019-10-01)
Cu-SBA-15 catalysts were synthesized hydrothermally under acidic and slightly higher acidic conditions via solid separation by either gel filtration or evaporation. XRD (X-ray diffraction) patterns and HRTEM (high resolution transmission electron microscopy) images showed that metal loading caused little changes in the ordered structure of SBA-15. Characteristic structural SBA-15's bonds and acid sites were observed in FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) spectrums and synthesis under high pH was created chang...
Effect of ZnO morphology on photocatalytic activity determined by no oxidation
Kahraman, Orhun; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2019)
In this thesis, the ISO 22197-1 standard test method -for assessing photocatalytic activity by NO oxidation- was used to determine the activity of a series of ZnO samples prepared by a wet chemical synthesis method. The crystallinity of the samples was monitored by XRD and the morphology of the samples was investigated by SEM analysis. NO oxidation measurements revealed that the samples having long range ordered hexagonal morphology shown better photocatalytic activity than those with flake-like morphology....
Synthesis of Photocatalytic Titanium Dioxide Nanopowders Using Different Acid Catalysers
Öztürk, Abdullah (2018-12-01)
Photocatalytic titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were synthesized via acid assisted sol-gel process. The effects of different acids namely; acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid on the formation of TiO2 nanoparticles and their photocatalytic properties were investigated. XRD, SEM, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer analyses were performed to examine the physical and chemical characteristics of the nano powders. The results showed that only anatase phase of TiO2nanoparticleswith different crystallite...
Effect of hydrogen ion-exchange capacity on activity of resin catalysts in tert-amyl-ethyl-ether synthesis
Boz, N; Doğu, Timur; Murtezaoglu, K; Dogu, G (Elsevier BV, 2004-08-10)
Activities of ion-exchange resin catalysts, having different hydrogen exchange capacities ranging between 5.1 and 1.3 meq H+/g, on the etherification reactions of 2M1B (2-methyl-1-butene) and 2M2B (2-methyl-2-butene) with ethanol were experimentally tested in a fixed bed reactor. These catalysts were prepared by the heat treatment of Amberlyst-15 catalysts at 220 degreesC at different durations of time and also by the synthesis of sulfonated styrene divinyl benzene cross-linked resins. Activity of these cat...
Effects of synthesis, doping methods and metal content on thermoluminescence glow curves of lithium tetraborate
Kayhan, Mehmet; Yılmaz, Ayşen (Elsevier BV, 2011-07-28)
Lithium tetraborate: Li(2)B(4)O(7), (LTB) has been synthesized and doped with various Mn content by different methods, such as, high temperature solid state synthesis and solution assisted synthesis methods. Powder XRD results proved the formation of solid-solution by replacing Mn with Li ions in LTB lattice at lower amount of Mn doping, for example 0.1-3.0% Mn doping. In this research TL glow curves of Mn doped lithium tetraborate (LTB: Mn) produced by using different synthesis and doping methods and the e...
