Scaling for icing wind tunnel tests andvalidation with numerical simulations
Özbek Yanmaz, Gizem.; Özgen, Serkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2019)
Icing is one of the most dangerous hazards to be encountered by air vehicles in flight. Ice accretion, particularly on control surfaces, wings and flight data sensors usually degrades both performance and operational safety of air vehicles. Thus, it has become important in the design and certification phases of system development to evaluate performance degradation because of icing. Icing wind tunnel testing is the most convenient method considering feasibility, cost and safety. However, when full-size mode...
Overal, performance prediction of turbo rotary compound (turc) engine using simulation results of engine components
Karaca, Mehmet; Akmandor, İbrahim Sinan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2005)
The thesis proposes an overall performance estimation procedure for a new turbo-rotary compound engine (TURC) and an associated novel thermodynamic cycle. In this engine, two or multiple spools are lined up in series within the engine. In the front spool, positive displacement rotary vane type turbines drive axial compressor the performance of which were estimated using stage stacking calculations. In the back spool, axial turbine stages drive positive displacement rotary vane type compressors, the performa...
Frequency domain computation of turbofan exhaust noise radiation
Ulusoy, Yavuz Barbaros; Özyörük, Yusuf; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2006)
In this study, acoustic noise radiation through a duct in frequency domain is analyzed. Frequency domain linearized Euler equations are solved for turbofan exhaust noise propagation and radiation. The geometry in studied cases is assumed as axisymmetric. The acoustic waves are decomposed into periodic azimuthal modes. Characteristic boundary conditions, and buffer zone boundary conditions are employed. Iterative type pseudo time integration is employed. Nonuniform background flow effect on the radiation pat...
Syrian Armenians during the last decades of the nineteenth and the first quarter of the twentieth centuries
Memiş (Eroğlu), Şerife; Turan, Ömer; Department of Middle East Studies (2007)
This thesis analyses the situation of the Syrian Armenians during the last decades of the nineteenth and the first quarter of the twentieth centuries. The central position of the Provinces of Aleppo and Damascus, parts of today’s Syria, for both the Armenian communities of Aleppo and Damascus and the Ottoman Empire are the main incentives that determine the focus of this study as Syrian Armenians. Apart from the representation of the social, economic, political, religious, cultural and educational life of t...
