Synthesis of zeolite membranes in flow system
Önder, Aylin; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
Zeolite membranes are formed as a thin zeolitic layer on the supports. They are usually synthesized by hydrothermal methods in batch systems. In this study, MFI and SAPO-34 type zeolite membranes were produced on macroporous tubular alumina supports in a recirculating flow system at elevated temperatures for the first time in the literature. During the synthesis, the synthesis mixture is flown between the reservoir and the membrane module which includes the support material. The synthesis temperatures were ...
Experimental research on in-tube condensation under steady-state and transient conditions
Tanrikut, A; Yesin, O (2005-01-01)
In this research study, in-tube condensation in the presence of air was investigated experimentally at a heat exchanger of countercurrent type for different operating conditions. The test matrix for the steady-state condition covers the range of pressures P = 1.8 to 5.5 bars, vapor Reynolds numbers Re, = 45 000 to 94 000, and inlet air mass fraction values Xi = 0 to 52%. The effect of air manifests itself by a reduction in the local heat flux and the local heat transfer coefficient. The local heat transfer ...
Numerical Improvement of Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopic Measurements
Koseoglu, D.; Berberoglu, H.; Altan, Hakan (2009-11-06)
We have developed an algorithm to efficiently eliminate unwanted reflections typically observed in the data obtained by Terahertz time-domain spectroscopic (THz-TDS) methods. The algorithm works by eliminating the reflections from the boundaries. The numerical improvement of the data allows better analysis of the critical parameters obtained by THz-TDS systems.
Effect of ionic strength on the performance of polymer enhanced ultrafiltration in heavy metal removal from aqueous solutions
İslamoğlu, Sezin; Yılmaz, Levent; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
Effect of ionic strength on the efficiency of heavy metal removal and recovery from aqueous solutions via continuous mode polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF) method was examined. Application of PEUF to divalent ions of cadmium, nickel and zinc after their prior linking with polyethylenimine (PEI) results in complete removal of metal ions from single component aqueous solutions at high pHs. Binding ability and hence the extent of metal retention in high ionic strength medium exhibits differences between ...
Development of PBI based membranes for H₂/CO₂ separation
Başdemir, Merve; Yılmaz, Levent; Kalıpçılar, Halil; Department of Chemical Engineering (2013)
Recent developments have confirmed that in the future hydrogen demand in industrial applications will arise because of the growing requirements for H2 in chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, and the newly emerging clean energy concepts. Hydrogen is mainly produced from the steam reforming of natural gas and water gas shift reactions. The major products of these processes are hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The selective removal of CO2 from the product gas is important because it poisons catalysts in the...
