Arsenic speciation in fish was performed using isocratic elution with cation exchange column high-performance liquid chromatography and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry detection. The separation of arsenobetaine and dimethylarsinic acid was performed in 12 min. DOLT-4 dogfish liver and NIST RM-50 albacore tuna certified reference materials were used to evaluate the accuracy for the determination of total arsenic in fish. In addition, reference materials were analyzed for arsenobetaine and dimethylarsinic acid, although they were not certified for these analytes. The limits of detection for arsenic in arsenobetaine and dimethylarsinic acid were 0.20 and 0.33 ng/mL, and the limits of quantitation were 0.58 and 1.11 ng/mL, respectively. Total arsenic and arsenic species were determined in fish using the developed method. The predominant arsenic species was arsenobetaine; the measured concentrations were from 0.43 to 12.0 mg/kg arsenic as arsenobetaine. Dimethylarsinic acid concentrations were below the limit of quantitation. The relative standard deviations were between 3.36 and 10.49 for total arsenic and 3.51 and 9.30 for arsenobetaine.

Arsenic speciation in fish by HPLC-ICP-MS
Eroğlu Özcan, Şefika; Ataman, Osman Yavuz; Department of Chemistry (2010)
Arsenic speciation in fish samples on the market was performed using isocratic elution with cation exchange column high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) detection. Total As concentrations were found by ICP-MS using samples digested by nitric acid-hydrogen peroxide solution using microwave oven digestion; the results were in the range of 1.15-12.6 µg/g. Separation of organic arsenicals, namely arsenobetaine (AB), dimethylarsinic acid (DMA) an...
Design, synthesis, and characterization of potential self-sorting compounds through differential solvation
Tekin, Gizem; Akdağ, Akın; Gökmen, Ali; Department of Chemistry (2016)
DNA achieved its double helix form with the help of hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions. When the sequence of the DNA is examined, it is seen that the DNA bases are the most hydrophobic part, and therefore; they are located at the innermost part of the double helix to avoid interaction with water. This location also enables them to form hydrogen bonds with the complementary DNA base rather than forming them with water. The next part in the sequence is the sugars which have higher solubility in water co...
Speciation of Selenium in Supplements by High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry
BAKIRDERE, Sezgin; Volkan, Mürvet; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2015-06-13)
Anion and cation exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were used for speciation of selenium in supplements. All the parameters in the extraction, separation, and determination procedures were optimized. Recovery studies for the selenium species from the anion and cation exchange columns were performed and there were no analyte losses. Limits of detection for selenium(IV), selenium(VI), Se in selenomethionine, and Se in sele...
Electrochemical behaviour and electrochemical polymerization of fluoro-substituted anilines
Cihaner, A; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (2002-08-01)
The electrochemical behaviour of three fluoro-substituted aniline monomers, 2-fluoroaniline (2FAN), 3-fluoroaniline (3FAN) and 4-fluoroaniline (4FAN), was investigated in aqueous acidic and organic media by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) studies. Constant potential electrolysis (CPE) of the monomers in acetonitrile-water mixture (1: 1 by volume) using NaClO4 as supporting electrolyte yielded soluble polymers. The mechanism of electrochemical polymerization was investigated using in situ electron spin reso...
SORPTION PROPERTIES OF SILICALITE-1 OF PURE SILICA FORM - THE INFLUENCE OF SORPTION HISTORY ON SORPTION KINETICS OF CRITICALLY SIZED MOLECULES
KARSH, H; Çulfaz, Ali; YUCEL, H (Elsevier BV, 1992-07-01)
Sorption properties of silicalite-1 samples of pure silica form for some parafinic and aromatic hydrocarbons of different molecular sizes were investigated. It was observed that sorption rates and apparent equilibrium capacities for critically sized molecules, m-xylene and o-xylene, depend on the sorption history of the sample. Sorption of m- and o-xylene proceeded extremely slowly on fresh samples of silicalite-1, whereas sorption rates of these molecules on silicalite-1 samples that had passed through a p...
