Adsorption of Methylene Blue on clinoptilolite and on Amberlite XAD-4 was investigated in a temperature range of 20-50 degrees C, in a batch adsorber. Results of this work showed that clinoptilolite was a better sorbent than Amberlite XAD-4 for the removal of Methylene Blue. Among the four adsorption rate models tested in the analysis of the adsorption rate data, a simple single parameter diffusion model (Model C) was shown as the best model to be used in practical applications. The diffusivity found from this model was not dependent on the adsorbate concentration. Although the pseudo-first order adsorption rate model also gave good agreement with the experimental data obtained at the initial periods of the adsorption experiments, the concentration dependence of the rate constant of this model was found as the major disadvantage of this model. Results indicated that dissociative chemisorption and blocking of some of the pores during adsorption caused high tortuosity factors and a decrease in the adsorption rate. Adsorption capacity of these adsorbents were also found to be increased significantly by a decrease of the pH of the solution from 10 to 3.

Critical behaviour of the thermodynamic quantities close to phase transitions in molecular crystals using raman data
Özdemir, Hilal; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Department of Physics (2017)
In this thesis we investigate the pressure and temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies for diffirent modes of benzene at ambient conditions (P=0 GPa and T=300 K). By using the experimental data we calculated the volume and frequency as a function of pressure at constant temperature and as a function of temperature at constant pressure, thus isothermal and isobaric mode Grüneisen parameter has been inferred in the diffrent modes. Our calculations show that calculated Raman frequencies agree well with...
Numerical investigation of coupled heat and mass transfer inside the adsorbent bed of an adsorption cooling unit
Solmus, Ismail; Rees, D. Andrew S.; Yamali, Cemil; Baker, Derek Keıth; KAFTANOĞLU, BİLGİN (2012-05-01)
In this study, the influence of several design parameters on the transient distributions of temperature, pressure and amount adsorbed in the radial direction of a cylindrical adsorbent bed of an adsorption cooling unit using silica gel/water have been investigated numerically. For this purpose, a transient one-dimensional local thermal non-equilibrium model that accounts for both internal and external mass transfer resistances has been developed using the local volume averaging method. For the conditions in...
Adsorption behaviour of shale gas reservoirs
Merey, Sukru; Sınayuç, Çağlar (2018-01-01)
Experimental adsorption measurements for one shale sample were conducted at 25 degrees C, 50 degrees C and 75 degrees C up to 2,000 psia by using pure methane (CH4) and pure carbon dioxide (CO2) to understand the behaviour of CH4 and CO2 adsorption on shales. The effects of temperature and pressure on CH4 and CO2 adsorption on the shale sample were observed. When temperature decreases from 75 degrees C to 25 degrees C, the adsorption capacity increases for both CH4 and CO2 adsorption. As pressure increases,...
Dielectric and electrical properties of an organic device containing benzotriazole and fluorene bearing copolymer
Yildiz, Dilber Esra; APAYDIN, Dogukan Hazar; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2013-05-05)
Dielectric and electrical properties of a benzotriazole and fluorene copolymer were investigated using current-voltage (IV), capacitance-voltage (CV), and conductancevoltage (G/wV) measurements at room temperature. The electrical parameters, barrier height (phi Bo), and ideality factor (n) obtained from the forward bias LnI-V plot were found as 0.453 eV and 2.08, respectively. The Rsvalues were found as 2.20, 2.12, 1.90 using dV/dLnIversus I, H(I)versus I and F(V)-V plots, respectively. The dielectric consta...
Diffusion Resistances and Contribution of Surface Diffusion in TAME and TAEE Production Using Amberlyst-15
Doğu, Timur; Boz, Nezahat; MÜRTEZAOĞLU, KIRALİ; DOĞU, GÜLŞEN (2003-01-01)
Effective diffusivities and adsorption equilibrium constants of methanol, ethanol and 2-methyl-2-butene (2M2B), in Amberlyst 15, were evaluated from batch adsorption experiments. Moment expressions derived for different models involving diffusion resistances in the macropores and within the gel-like micrograins were used for the evaluation of effective diffusion coefficients. Contribution of surface diffusion to diffusion flux within the macropores was found to be quite significant. Also, it was found that ...
