A simple, accurate and efficient variable fractional delay (VFD) IIR filter is presented. The method is based on the interpolation of pole loci of maximally-flat allpass fractional-delay filters. The responses of the proposed VFD filter for different fractional delay values are simulated and the approximation errors are shown to be very small.

Ring based FIR-IIR best delay LS inverse filters
Aktas, M; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2004-04-30)
In this paper, we investigate the best delay LS inverse filter design problem. We propose FIR-IIR LS inverse filters to improve the LS error performance for the same complexity. Furthermore we present a new approach for the design of FIR-IIR LS inverse filters by using a special selection procedure for the IIR part. We derived the closed form LS error expressions and compared with the practical results in order to effectively show the performance improvement in this case. In general 4-5 dB improvement is ac...
Analysis of root displacement interpolation method for tunable allpass fractional-delay filters
Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Günel Kılıç, Banu (2007-10-01)
One of the simplest ways of designing allpass fractional-delay filters with maximally fiat group delays is by using the Thiran approximation by which the filter coefficients are calculated using a closed-form equation. However, due to the number of multiplications and divisions involved, the calculation of these coefficients is a computationally costly task and is not suitable for real-time applications. The analysis of a root-displacement-based interpolation method used in allpass tunable fractional delays...
Risk sensitive particle filters for mitigating sample impoverishment
Orguner, Umut (2007-08-29)
Risk-sensitive filters (RSF) put a penalty to higher-order moments of the estimation error compared to conventional filters as the Kalman filter minimizing the mean square error. The result is a more cautious filter, which can be interpreted as an implicit and automatic way to increase the state noise covariance. On the other hand, the process of jittering, or roughening, is well-known in particle filters to mitigate sample impoverishment. The purpose of this contribution is to introduce risk-sensitive part...
Occlusion Handling Frame Rate Up-Conversion
Ozkalayci, Burak; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2011-09-06)
This paper presents a novel occlusion handling frame rate up-conversion method. The proposed method consists of two main steps; true motion estimation and directionally adaptive motion compensated interpolation. In the true motion estimation step, forward and backward directed motion vectors are estimated and merged recursively in order to reliably estimate the occlusion regions without increasing the number of frame buffers. After acquiring a reliable motion vector field, motion compensated interpolation i...
Waveguide filters with ridged and unequal width resonators
Yıldırım, Nevzat; Hizal, A (2005-06-17)
Analytical expressions are developed for characterization of ridged / finned waveguides for use in the design of direct coupled waveguide filters with ridged and / or unequal width resonators. The analytical expressions are used to control the harmonic passbands and higher order modes. A survey is made for comparison of responses of waveguide filters using unequal width resonators and unequal ridge resonators. it is found that ridged resonators are more effective in suppressing the spurious passbands in the...
