Layer-by-layer (LbL) films of micelles of poly[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]-b-poly[(2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)] (PDMA-b-PDEA) and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) with remarkably different pH-stability and release properties are obtained via tuning film deposition conditions in a narrow pH and temperature range. Multilayers constructed at pH 8.5/25 degrees C or pH 8/30 degrees C completely disintegrate at physiologically related conditions, whereas film deposition at pH 8/25 degrees C produces stable films under the same conditions. Importantly, despite their stability, pH 8/25 degrees C multilayers release a considerable amount of pyrene at moderately acidic pH due to disintegration of the micellar cores. The amount of pyrene increases significantly at body temperature due to lower critical solution temperature (LCST)-type phase behavior of PDMA coronal chains. The difference in properties of multilayers is explained by the extent of association among the layers which can be tuned by film deposition conditions in a narrow pH and temperature range due to dual responsive, that is, pH and temperature behavior of PDMA-b-PDEA micelles.

Processing and characterization of multilayer films of poly(ethylene terephthalate) and surface-modified poly(tetrafluoroethylene)
Bayram, Göknur (2007-06-01)
Multilayer films were prepared from poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films together with using an adhesion promoting layer (tie-layer) consisting of ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA) terpolymer and low density polyethylene (LDPE) blend. Na/naphthalene treatment and subsequent acrylic acid grafting were applied on the surfaces of PTFE for chemical modification. FT-IR spectroscopy, XPS analysis and surface energy measurements were performed to cha...
Synthesis and characterization of conducting Polypyrrole-Poly(N-vinylimidazole) composites
Kucukyavuz, Z; Kucukyavuz, S; Ozyalcin, M (1999-05-01)
Conducting composite films of Poly(N-vinylimidazole) with Polypyrrole were prepared electrochemically. Composites having different polypyrrole percentages showed conductivites in the range 10(-3)-10(-1) S.cm(-1) Characterization of composites was carried out with FTIR and scanning electron microscopy techniques. Temperature dependence of conductivities exhibited reversible behaviour and confirmed the variable range hopping theory.
Contextual analysis of nationalism discourse in Turkish historical adventure movies (1965-1980)
Çakır, Dilek; Şen, Mustafa; Department of Sociology (2019)
This study aims to present a contextual analysis of nationalism discourse in Turkish historical adventure movies which were made as film series (Tarkan, Karaoğlan, Malkoçoğlu, Kara Murat and Battal Gazi) between 1965 and 1980. To provide the necessary theoretical basis, Gramsci’s theory of ideology together with critical discourse methodology is applied. As such, this study conceptualizes a non-reductionist and contextual understanding of ideology in order to show the dynamic relation between cinema, politi...
Preparation and characterization of conducting polybutadiene/polythiophene composites
Kiralp, S; Kucukyavuz, Z; Qasrawi, AF (2003-01-01)
Conductive composite films of cis-1,4-polybutadiene (PBD) with polythiophene, (PTh) were prepared electrochemicallly. Thiophene was polymerized on PBD-coated platinium electrodes. The composites with different PTh percentages showed conductivity in the order of 10(-3) (Omega cm)(-1). The characterization of the films was performed using FTIR, scanning electron microscope and differential scanning calorimetry techniques. In order to understand the dominant transport mechanism, the temperature dependence of c...

All Rights Reserved. Objective: The aim of this study was to find the efficient medium to bind an anticancer drug, Doxorubicin (DOX), to a synthesized polymer, methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-block-polycaprolactone (mPEG-b-PCL) via pH sensitive hydrazone bonds and to determine the amount of conjugated drug. Methods: DOX conjugation was carried out in two different media [dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and methanol-trifluoroacetic acid (MeOH-TFA)]. The amount of conjugated d...
