Poly-1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)ethene P(TCP) was successfully synthesized by electrochemical oxidation of corresponding monomer, namely, 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)ethene (TCP) using dichloromethane as the solvent and tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)) as supporting electrolyte. Spectroelectrochemical properties of P(TCP) were investigated in situ recording the electronic absorption spectra of the polymer film coated on indium-tin oxide (ITO) at various potentials. P(TCP) displayed transparent to military green color in 1.80 s with an optical contrast of 23.0% (at 770 nm) and an optical band gap of 3.1 eV. The objective evaluation of the colors of P(TCP) at various potentials was performed through colorimetry studies on the basis of "Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage" (CIE) standards. The morphology of the polymer film was investigated by AFM analysis. A dual type electrochromic device based on P(TCP) was constructed and its spectroelectrochemical properties were investigated. The electrochromic device exhibits color change from transparent to dark blue with a good open circuit memory.

Synthesis and characterization of polycaprolactone-based segmented polyurethanes
Guney, Aysun; Kızıltay, Aysel; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Endoğan Tanır, Tuğba (2019-01-01)
Segmented polyurethanes were synthesized by the reactions of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL)-diol and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate through bulk polymerization without using solvent, initiator, or catalyst. Phase separation and hydrogen bond formation between hard segments or between hard and soft segments were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)-ATR and X-ray diffraction (XRD), while physical and mechanical properties were studied by atomic force microscope, differential scanning c...
Development of Ru0/MO2 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf, Ce) catalysts for electrocatalytic hydrogen production from water splitting
Demir, Elif; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Department of Chemistry (2017)
In this study, Ru0/MO2 catalysts were prepared by reduction of ruthenium(III) chloride on different types of metal oxides, which were TiO2, ZrO2, CeO2 and HfO2, then catalysts were loaded on glassy carbon (GC) electrodes at same mass loading level, and used as electrocatalysts in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Characterization of prepared catalysts were done by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy and X...
Synthesis and characterization of a new soluble conducting polymer and its electrochromic devices
Sahin, Elif; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Akhmedov, Idris M.; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-10-01)
A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 1-(perfluorophenyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1H-pyrrole (FPTPy). The structures of both the monomer and the soluble polymer were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1-NMR) and fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Polymer of FPTPy was also synthesized via potentiostatic electrochemical polymerization in acetonitrile (AN)/NaClO4/LiClO4 (0.1 M:0.1 M) Solvent-electrolyte couple. Characterizations of th...

A series of alternating conjugated copolymers which contain selenophene modified benzodithiophene and fluorine bearing benzothiadiazole have been synthesized via Stille polycondensation reaction to investigate the effect of the number of fluorine atoms substituted to the benzothiadiazole. Three different polymers, PBDTSe-BT, PBDTSe-FBT and PBDTSe-FFBT, were reported and their electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and photovoltaic behaviors were examined. Density functional theory calculations were perfor...
Immobilization of invertase in conducting copolymers of 3-methylthienyl methacrylate
Çırpan, Ali; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yagci, Y. (Elsevier BV, 2003-4)
Immobilization of invertase in conducting copolymer matrices of 3-methylthienyl methacrylate with pyrrole and thiophene was achieved by constant potential electrolysis using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the supporting electrolyte. Polythiophene (PTh) was also used in entrapment process for comparison. Kinetic parameters, Michaelis-Menten constant, Km, and the maximum reaction rate, Vmax, were investigated. Operational stability and temperature optimization of the enzyme electrodes were also examined.
