We investigate the three-dimensional Georgi-Glashow model with a Chern-Simons term. We find that there exist complex monopole solutions of finite action. They dominate the path integral and disorder the Higgs vacuum, but electric charges are not confined. Subtleties in the gauge-fixing procedure in the path integral and issues related to Gribov copies are noted. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.

Archimedean Cones in Vector Spaces
Emelyanov, Eduard (2017-01-01)
In the case of an ordered vector space (briefly, OVS) with an order unit, the Archimedeanization method was recently developed by Paulsen and Tomforde [4]. We present a general version of the Archimedeanization which covers arbitrary OVS. Also we show that an OVS (V, V+) is Archimedean if and only if inf(tau is an element of{tau}), y is an element of L(x(tau) - y) = 0 for any bounded below decreasing net {x(tau)}(tau) in V, where L is the collection of all lower bounds of {x(tau)}(tau), and give characteriz...
Estimation and hypothesis testing in BIB design and robustness
Tiku, Moti L.; ŞENOĞLU, BİRDAL (Elsevier BV, 2009-07-01)
Modified maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters in a BIB design under non-normality of error distributions are obtained. They are shown to be more efficient and robust than the traditional least squares estimators. A test statistic for testing a linear contrast among treatment effects is developed. A real life example is given.
Scalar waves in spacetimes with closed timelike curves
Buğdaycı, Necmi; Başkal, Sibel; Department of Physics (2005)
The existence and -if exists- the nature of the solutions of the scalar wave equation in spacetimes with closed timelike curves are investigated. The general properties of the solutions on some class of spacetimes are obtained. Global monochromatic solutions of the scalar wave equation are obtained in flat wormholes of dimensions 2+1 and 3+1. The solutions are in the form of infinite series involving cylindirical and spherical wave functions and they are elucidated by the multiple scattering method. Explici...
Chaotic behavior of triatomic clusters
Yurtsever, E; Elmaci, N (1997-01-01)
The dynamics of triatomic clusters is investigated employing two-body Lennard-Jones and three-body Axilrod-Teller potential functions. Lyapunov exponents are calculated for the total energy range of -2.70 epsilon <E< -0.72 epsilon. The effects of the initial geometry of the cluster, its angular momentum, and the magnitude of three-body interactions are analyzed. It has been found that the dominating factor for the extent of chaotic behavior is the energy assigned to vibrational modes. The introduction of th...
Galois structure of modular forms of even weight
Gurel, E. (Elsevier BV, 2009-10-01)
We calculate the equivariant Euler characteristics of powers of the canonical sheaf on certain modular curves over Z which have a tame action of a finite abelian group. As a consequence, we obtain information on the Galois module structure of modular forms of even weight having Fourier coefficients in certain ideals of rings of cyclotomic algebraic integers.
