In this study, Pr-TiO2 samples were synthesized using a sol-gel method. The effects of the calcination conditions on the structure and photocatalytic activity were examined, and the results are compared with pure TiO2 samples. The XRD analysis indicated that the anatase structure is stabilized by Pr, and rutile phase formation is inhibited by the addition of Pr. It was also observed that Pr doping enhances the surface area and inhibits the crystal growth. Photoluminescence analysis with 325 nm excitation showed two emission bands at 608 nm and 621 nm, which are unique to the praseodymium-doped samples. The photocatalytic activity of the Pr-TiO2 and TiO2 samples for phenol degradation were also tested, and a higher photocatalytic activity was observed for praseodymium-doped samples.

Speciation and determination of thiols in biological samples using high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography-Orbitrap MS
Bakirdere, Sezgin; Bramanti, Emilia; D'ulivo, Alessandro; Ataman, Osman Yavuz; Mester, Zoltan (2010-11-08)
An analytical method was developed for the determination of thiols in biological samples. Reverse phase chromatography coupled to ICP quaduropole MS or Orbitrap MS was employed for the separation and detection of thiols. For the determination of total thiols, oxidized thiols were reduced using dithiothreitol (DTT). Reduction efficiencies for species of interest were found to be close to 100%. Reduced thiols were derivatized by p-hydroxymercuribenzoate (PHMB) and then separated on a C8 column. Optimization o...
Electrochromic properties of a soluble conducting polymer of 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole
Tarkuc, S.; Sahmetlioglu, E.; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Akhmedov, I. M.; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2007-02-20)
In this study, synthesis of a thiophene functionalized monomer, 1-benzyl-2,5-di(thiophene-2-yl)-1H-pyrrole (SNBS) was achieved. A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical polymerization. The polymer synthesized via chemical oxidative method was soluble in organic solvents and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 and C-13 NMR) spectroscopy. The average molecular weight of the chemically synthesized polymer was determined by gel permeation chromatography (G...
Enhancing electrochemical and electrochromic performances of carbazole comprising monomer via copolymerization with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT)
Kalay, Isil; Yigit, Deniz; GÜLLÜ, Mustafa; DEPCİ, TOLGA; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Hacioglu, Serife O. (Elsevier BV, 2020-09-01)
In this study, two novel electrochromic copolymers (CoP1.3 and CoP1.5) were synthesized via electrochemical methods and characterized. The comonomers used in the synthesis were 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and a carbazole comprising monomer; 9-(2-(4-(Phenyldiazenyl) phenoxy) ethyl)-3,6-di(thiophen-2-yl)-9H-carbazole (M1). Carbazole containing monomer (M1) and EDOT were combined with two different comonomer feed ratios, 1: 3 and 1: 5 respectively in order to investigate the effect of increasing EDOT amo...
Electrochemical synthesis of new conjugated polymers based on carbazole and furan units
Oguzturk, H. Esra; TİRKEŞ, SEHA; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (2015-08-01)
In this study, synthesis of four new monomers; 3,6-di(2-furyl)-9H-carbazole (M1), 3,6-di(2-furyl)-9-ethyl-carbazole (M2), 2,7-di(2-furyl)-9-H-carbazole (M3), 2,7-di(2-furyl)-9-(tridecan-7-yl)-9H-carbazole (M4), was achieved via Stifle cross-coupling reaction. The monomers were electrochemically polymerized, via repetitive cycling in acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate electrolytic medium. Optical and electrochemical properties of the monomers and their corresponding polymers were investigate...
Photocatalytic antimicrobial and self-cleaning properties of titana-silica mixed oxide thin films
Korkmaz Erdural, Beril; Bölükbaşı, Ufuk; Karakaş, Gürkan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
In this study photocatalytic antibacterial and self-cleaning activities of TiO2-SiO2 thin films as a function of TiO2/SiO2 ratios were investigated. TiO2-SiO2 mixed oxides were synthesized by sol-gel method and coated over soda-lime glass plates by dip coating technique. Escherichia coli was used as a model microorganism for the photocatalytic antibacterial tests. Degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) molecules was used to characterize photocatalytic self-cleaning activities of thin film surfaces. The max...
