Chiral amines are important starting materials for the synthesis of biologically important compounds. Enantioselective addition of dialkylzinc reagents to imines is a reliable method for the synthesis of these compounds. Different chiral catalysts were developed and used for this method. Phosphorous based PFAM catalysts were tried for the first time in the enantioselective synthesis of amines by reacting diethylzinc with N-sulfonyl imines and N-diphenylphosphinoyl imines. Chiral amines were isolated with moderate to acceptable yields and enantioselectivities.

ENANTIOSELECTIVE OXIDATION OF THIOANISOLE TO METYL PHENYL SULFOXIDE BY CHIRAL COMPOUNDS BEARING N-Cl BOND
İPEK, HALİL; Akdağ, Akın (Informa UK Limited, 2015-08-03)
Chiral sulfoxides are used in asymmetric synthesis and are present in various biologically active compounds. Asymmetric synthesis of the sulfoxides has been performed by chiral metal complexes and non-metals containing peroxide and oxide moieties. In this study, a new metal free method has been developed to oxidize thioanisole into methyl phenyl sulfoxide with easily accessible chiral compounds carrying N-Cl bond. For this purpose, chiral amine and amide bearing reagents were synthesized and chlorinated by ...
Enantioselective michael addition of 1-nitropropane to nitroolefins with 2-aminodmap and quinine based bifunctional organocatalysts
Kanberoğlu, Esra; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2015)
1,3-dinitro compounds are key materials in the synthesis of a variety of important fine chemicals. Moreover, they are reduced to 1,3-diamines which are starting materials of biologically active compounds, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. In this study, ((2S,3S)-1,3-dinitropentan-2-yl)benzene was synthesized via the Michael addition of 1-nitropropane to trans-β-nitrostyrene in the presence of chiral bifunctional 2-aminoDMAP and quinine based organocatalysts. In the first part of study, reaction conditions ...
Chemoenzymatic synthesis of 2-ethyl-5-hydroxy-3- methoxy-cyclopent-2-enone
Dalfidan, Çağla; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Chemistry (2005)
Chiral hydroxylated cyclopentane derivatives are important precursors for biologically active compounds. Synthesis of these types of compounds in optically pure form found increased interest in pharmaceutical chemistry. 2-ethyl-cyclopentane-1.3-dione was acetoxylated using manganese III acetate at preferred positions. Enzyme catalyzed enantioselective hydrolysis or enantioselective acetoxylation of hydrolyzed acetoxy derivatives gives the corresponding hydroxylated diketones in optically pure form.
Boron trifluoride mediated Prins reaction of methylene diacetate with styrenes. One-pot synthesis of 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols
İŞLEYEN, ALPER; Doğan, Özdemir (Georg Thieme Verlag KG, 2006-05-03)
A one-pot procedure was developed for the synthesis of 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols, which are important starting materials for the synthesis of biologically active benzanilide derivatives. Styrenes were reacted with methylene diacetate in the presence of boron trifluoride to give the corresponding 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols in 36-84% yield by the Prins reaction. A strongly electron-donating methoxy substituent at either the ortho or para position of the styrene did not give the expected 3-chloro-3-arylpropanols ...
Chemoenzymatic functionalization of cyclic 1,3-diketones
Fındık, Hamide; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Chemistry (2004)
Chiral a-hydroxy and a-acetoxy enones are important starting materials in the synthesis of many biologically active materials. In this work, enantiomerically pure ?-hydroxy enone and polyoxo cyclohexenones are synthesized starting from 1,3-cyclohexandione. In the first step, 1,3-cyclohexandione is protected under acid catalyzation and 3-methoxy-2-methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one is obtained. a'-Acetoxy enone is obtained by Mn(OAc)3 mediated oxidation which is an attractive alternative to other multi-step procedure...
