Theory of disordered unconventional superconductors
Keleş, Ahmet; Spivak, B. Z.; Kivelson, S. A. (2014-12-01)
In contrast to conventional s-wave superconductivity, unconventional (e.g., p- or d-wave) superconductivity is strongly suppressed even by relatively weak disorder. Upon approaching the superconductormetal transition, the order parameter amplitude becomes increasingly inhomogeneous, leading to effective granularity and a phase ordering transition described by the Mattis model of spin glasses. One consequence of this is that at sufficiently low temperatures, between the clean unconventional superconducting a...
THEORY OF POLARIZED FLUORESCENCE FROM MOLECULAR PAIRS - FORSTER TRANSFER AT LARGE ELECTRONIC COUPLING
KNOX, RS; GULEN, D (Wiley, 1993-01-01)
Polarization properties of the fluorescence from a pair of identical molecules coupled electronically are examined on the basis of a stochastic Liouville equation formalism developed in 1979 by Rahman, Knox and Kenkre. The time development of polarization is calculated for random ensembles of rigid molecule pairs under initial conditions that represent either selective excitation or broad-band coherent excitation. We hold that the applicability of the Forster mechanism is not limited to cases of weak coupli...
Theory of impurity induced lattice distortions in the normal phase of charge density wave systems
Turgut, Sadi (1994-05-01)
A phenomenological Ginzburg-Laundau theory is applied to the normal phase of one-dimensional charge-density-wave systems with a finite concentration of impurities. It is found that the interaction between the impurities and the highly polarizable electron gas leads to a strong and oscillatory impurityimpurity interaction, which in turn leads to ordered impurity arrangements and to sizeable periodic lattice distortions. The effect is very strongly dependent on the charge of the impurities, their concentratio...
