Performance comparison of brbfs designed using different response modification factors
Güner, Tuğberk; Topkaya, Cem; Department of Civil Engineering (2020-9)
In this study, buckling restrained braced frames (BRBFs) designed with various response modification factors were examined by numerical analysis and their performances were compared using the next-generation performance assessment approach. Three, six, and nine-story archetypes (low to medium-rise) with response modification factors in the range of 1 to 8 were designed using ASCE7-16, AISC 341-16, and AISC 360-16 specifications. A total of 24 archetypes were analyzed using nonlinear dynamic analysis procedu...
A Study on Investigating Eight Grade Students' Reasoning Skills on Measurement: The Case of Cylinder
Işıksal Bostan, Mine; Osmanoğlu, Aslıhan (2010-01-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate 81 grade students' reasoning skills on measurement. Specifically, in case of surface area and volume of a cylinder. The data were collected from 271 eight grade elementary school students enrolled in three public and two private schools in Ankara at the end of 2008 spring semester. In order to investigate the elementary students' reasoning skills regarding the area and volume of a cylinder, the Cylinder Exploration Task (CET, Merseth, 2003) was administered as th...
Influential factors on faculty performance in distance education
Kara, Mehmet; Yıldırım, Zahide; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2018)
This study aimed to identify the performance deficiencies of the faculty in distance education and to design interventions for performance improvement with a systemic perspective. Based on this aim, the study was conducted within the framework of Externality-Tangibility model for performance improvement and Transactional Distance theory. Concurrent embedded mixed methods research design, in which both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from distance education administrators, faculty, students,...
Pre-service science teachers' use of self-regulation strategies
ŞENLER, BURCU; Sungur-Vural, Semra (2014-06-08)
The aim of this study was twofold: first, to examine the relationship between use of self-regulation strategies and academic performance; and second, to analyze gender differences in use of self-regulation strategies. For the specified purposes, 1794 senior pre-service science teachers (876 males, 905 females, and 13 no response) participated in the study. Results showed that GPA was significantly but not strongly associated with task value, metacognitive self-regulation, effort regulation, peer learning, m...
Student evaluation of instruction: comparison between in-class and online methods
Çapa Aydın, Yeşim (Informa UK Limited, 2014-12-4)
This study compares student evaluations of instruction that were collected in-class with those gathered through an online survey. The two modes of administration were compared with respect to response rate, psychometric characteristics and mean ratings through different statistical analyses. Findings indicated that in-class evaluations produced a significantly higher response rate than online evaluation. In addition, Rasch analysis showed that mean ratings obtained in in-class evaluation were significantly ...
