Prenatal ethanol intoxication and maternal intubation stress alter cell survival and apoptosis in the postnatal development of rat hippocampus

It is well known that the fetal ethanol exposure and prenatal stress may have adverse effects on brain development. Interestingly, some morphological and functional recovery from their teratogenic effects that take place during brain maturation. However, mechanisms that underlie this recovery are not fully elucidated. The aim of this study was to examine whether the postnatal attenuation of fetal alcohol - and maternal stress-induced morphological and functional deficits correlates with compensatory changes...
Oligomerization and cell surface expression of recombinant GABA(A) receptors tagged in the delta subunit
Oflaz, Furkan Enes; Son, Çağdaş Devrim; Arslan, Ayla (IMR Press, 2019-12-01)
The gamma-Aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABA(A) Rs) are heteropentameric chloride channels responsible for primary inhibition in the mammalian brain. Studies have shown the expression of recombinant GABA(A) R subunits tagged with the green fluorescent protein (GFP), a 26.9 kDa protein that exhibits bright green fluorescence when exposed to light in the blue to ultraviolet range. This allows the formation of recombinant proteins essential for the development of relevant in-vitro and in-vivo methodologi...
From human grasping to robot grasping
Oztop, Erhan; Ozyer, Baris; Ugur, Emre; Kawato, Mitsuo (Elsevier BV; 2009-01-01)
We will report our ongoing work on task dependent grasping in humans and realization of this skill on a robotic platform. The human movements are recorded using a motion capture system and analyzed off-line or used online to control a robotic system. The off-line results showed that humans deploy different grasps for objects depending on the task specification (e.g. grasping a hammer for prying or driving a nail), even though the orientation and location of the objects were kept the same. The off-line data ...
Musical mirror-symmetrical movement tasks: comparison of rhythm versus melody-playing
Tokgoz, Serhat; Aydogdu, Demet; Ilhan, Barkin; Sahin, Yusuf; Bariseri, Nurtug; Ozturkler, Batu Mehmet; ÇUKUR, TOLGA (Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health), 2020-05-07)
Bimanual mirror-symmetrical movement (MSM) is relatively easy to control movement. Different MSM tasks may have different activations and interhemispheric interactions. The purpose of this study is to compare anatomo-physiological features such as hemispheric activations and dominance of two different MSMs, namely melody-playing and rhythm. We examined functional MRI (fMRI) recordings in a group of fifteen right-handed pianists performing two separate tasks: bimanual rhythm and bimanual melody-playing on tw...
