Turkish Atomic Energy Authority's (TAEK's) Proton Accelerator Facility in Ankara, Turkey, has been inaugurated in May 2012 and is under the process of being certified for commercial radio-isotope production. Three of the four arms of the 30 MeV cyclotron are being used for radio-isotope production, while the fourth is foreseen for research and development of novel ideas and methods. The cyclotron can vary the beam current between 12 mu A and 1.2 mA, sufficient for irradiation tests for semiconductor materials, detectors and devices. We propose to build an irradiation facility in the R&D room of this complex, open for use to the international detector development community.

Preliminary Test Setup of the METU Defocusing Beamline, an Irradiation Test Facility in Turkey
Demirköz, Melahat Bilge (null; 2017-05-14)
METU-Defocusing Beam Line (METU-DBL) Project has been started in August 2015 and aims to construct a beam line at Turkish Atomic Energy Authority Sarayköy Nuclear Education and Research Center Proton Accelerator Facility to perform Single Event Effect (SEE) tests for the first time in Turkey. The METU-DBL is 8m-long and has quadrupole magnets to enlarge the beam size and collimators to reduce the flux. When complete the METU-DBL will provide a beam that is suitable according to ESA ESCC No. 25100 Single Eve...
Impact of composition modification induced by ion beam Coulomb-drag effects on the nanoindentation hardness of HT9
Gigax, Jonathan G.; Kim, Hyosim; Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Price, L. M.; Wang, X.; Maloy, S. A.; Garner, F. A.; Shao, L. (Elsevier BV, 2019-04-01)
Accelerator-based ion irradiation is commonly used to simulate neutron damage, in lieu of neutron irradiation due to limited availability of fast flux facilities and little to no activation of the samples. Neutron atypical effects, however, must be recognized and their impact minimized in order to achieve the most accurate microstructural evolution under ion bombardment. Mechanical property changes, which arise from the synergy of numerous radiation-induced changes, are especially susceptible to these neutr...
Cosmic tests and performance of the ATLAS SemiConductor tracker barrels
Demirköz, Melahat Bilge (Elsevier BV, 2007-03-01)
ATLAS is a multi-purpose particle detector for the LHC and will detect proton collisions with center of mass energy of 14 TeV. Part of the central inner detector, the SemiConductor Tracker (SCT) barrel, is now fully integrated with the Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT) barrel. The SCT module performance has been measured after module production, after macro-assembly of modules onto barrels, after arrival at CERN and again partially after integration with the TRT. The module noise average per channel has be...
Identification techniques for highly boosted W bosons that decay into hadrons
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-12-01)
In searches for new physics in the energy regime of the LHC, it is becoming increasingly important to distinguish single-jet objects that originate from the merging of the decay products of W bosons produced with high transverse momenta from jets initiated by single partons. Algorithms are defined to identify such W jets for different signals of interest, using techniques that are also applicable to other decays of bosons to hadrons that result in a single jet, such as those from highly boosted Z and Higgs ...
Hydroelectric power potential and its use in Turkey
Taşdemiroğlu, Erol (Elsevier BV, 1988-7)
Hydroelectric development in Turkey is briefly reviewed. The results of estimates of gross and economically exploitable hydroelectric power potentials are compared. Dam sites and their order for construction are identified. Present and future developments in the power sector are analyzed and projections are given for electricity consumption and production to the year 2010. Hydraulic, thermal and nuclear contributions to total electricity generation are discussed. Finally, problems associated with hydroelect...
