Hydroelectric development in Turkey is briefly reviewed. The results of estimates of gross and economically exploitable hydroelectric power potentials are compared. Dam sites and their order for construction are identified. Present and future developments in the power sector are analyzed and projections are given for electricity consumption and production to the year 2010. Hydraulic, thermal and nuclear contributions to total electricity generation are discussed. Finally, problems associated with hydroelectric power are identified.

Geothermal energy potential and utilization in Turkey
Taşdemiroğlu, Ersoy (Elsevier BV, 1988-3)
The regional distribution of the geothermal energy potential in Turkey, recent surveys, and utilization areas are described. The present and future roles of geothermal energy and their economic aspects are discussed. The implications of geothermal energy exploration and utilization are noted. Recommendations are made to expand geothermal-energy development.
GIS based geothermal potential assessment: A case study from Western Anatolia, Turkey
TÜFEKÇİ, Nesrin; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan (Elsevier BV, 2010-01-01)
Potential geothermal areas are identified through investigation of spatial relations between geothermal occurrences and their surrounding geological phenomena in western Anatolia, Turkey. The identification is based on only publicly available data. It is expected that the study will guide further preliminary investigations performed for large areas having limited information. Magnetic anomaly, Bouger gravity anomaly, earthquake epicenter and lineament datasets are used for the analysis. The first is used wi...
Wind energy assessment in Turkey
Taşdemiroğlu, Erol (Elsevier BV, 1987-1)
Long-term wind speed measurements from 117 stations in Turkey have been evaluated in order to find prospective sites for building large scale wind-power machines. Based on these measurements, monthly mean isopleth maps as well as an annual mean density map for wind speed have been produced. Using the Weibull distributions, the available annual mean power and the variations with altitude have been computed for the selected stations. Finally the applicability of these systems to this country is discussed.
Solar energy R&D, technology and economics in Turkey
Taşdemiroğlu, E (Elsevier BV, 1990-1)
The solar energy potential of Turkey is assessed. Solar energy R&D programs and technology and the present market for flat-plate solar collectors are briefly reviewed. The potential share of solar energy in the total energy budget is estimated.
Settlement behaviour of concrete faced rockfill dams : a case study
Özkuzukıran, Rıza Savaş; Özkan, M. Yener; Department of Civil Engineering (2005)
In this study settlement behaviour of Kürtün dam, which is the first concrete faced rockfill dam in Turkey, is investigated. Two dimensional plane strain finite element analyses are carried out in order to determine the total stresses and displacements during construction and reservoir filling conditions. Hardening soil model is used in order to represent the non-linear, inelastic and stress dependent behaviour of rockfill material. Material model parameters are selected mainly referring to the previous stu...
