We have conducted visible pump-THz probe experiments on single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) deposited on quartz substrates. Our results suggest that the photoexcited nanotubes exhibit localized transport due to Lorentz-type photo-induced localized states. These experiments were repeated for ion-implanted, 3-4nm Si nanoclusters in quartz for which a similar behavior was observed.

Characteristics of nanoscale composites by terahertz spectroscopy
Altan, Hakan; Federici, John F; Lan, Aidong; Grebel, Haim (2003-07-29)
We have conducted visible pump-THz probe experiments on single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) on quartz substrates. Our results suggest an upper limit to the carrier-lifetime, which is on the order 1.5ps, limited only by the THz pulse duration. These experiments were repeated for ion-implanted, 3-4nm Si nanoclusters in quartz for which the carrier lifetime was also assessed at 1.5ps. THz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) of SWCNTs revealed that the THz pulse peak transmission changed under optical illumina...
Optical and electronic characteristics of single walled carbon nanotubes and silicon nanoclusters by tetrahertz spectroscopy
Altan, Hakan; Federici, JF; Lan, AD; Grebel, H (2004-12-01)
We have conducted visible pump-THz (THz-terahertz) probe measurements on single wall carbon nanotubes deposited on quartz substrates. Our results suggest that the photoexcited nanotubes exhibit localized transport due to Lorentz-type photoinduced localized states from 0.2 to 0.7 THz. Upon modeling the THz transmission through the photoexcited layer with an effective dielectric constant given by Maxwell-Garnett theory we found that the data are best fit by a broad Lorentz state at 0.5 THz. These experiments ...
OPTIMIZATION OF SILICON-OXYNITRIDE THIN FILMS FOR CRYSTALLINE SILICON (C-Si) PERC CELL
Canar, Hasan Hüseyin; Turan, Raşit; Erçelebi, Ayşe Çiğdem; Department of Physics (2022-6)
PECVD deposited SiNx has been used in PV industry especially for PERC solar cell as anti-reflection coating (ARC) and passivating layer [1]. However, its limited optical and electrical properties create a barrier for achieving higher solar cell efficiencies. For that reason, an alternative is introduced that is SiOxNy thin film with adjustable refractive index can be tuned as low as SiO2 [2]. In this thesis, deposited SiNx and SiOxNy films were characterized by various measurement methods such as SE, FTIR,...
Production of High-Performance CdZnTe Crystals Grown by THM for Radiation Detection Applications
Ünal, Mustafa; Balbaşı, Özden Başar; Karaman, Mehmet Can; Genç, Ayşe Merve; Parlak, Mehmet; Turan, Raşit (2022-01-01)
© 2022, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.CdZnTe crystals are the perfect candidate to be used in room temperature x-ray and gamma-ray detection systems. Production of detector-grade crystals, on the other hand, is challenging due to the unique properties of the CdZnTe. CdZnTe crystals are soft-brittle materials and have high ionicity of bonds that makes the growth process challenging. Among several growth techniques, the travelling heater method (THM) is a preferred growth method to obtain high-qual...
Optical properties of GaS crystals: Combined study of temperature-dependent band gap energy and oscillator parameters
IŞIK, MEHMET; TUĞAY, EVRİN; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2017-08-01)
Optical parameters of gallium sulfide (GaS) layered single crystals have been found through temperature-dependent transmission and room temperature reflection experiments in the wavelength range of 400-1100 nm. Experimental data demonstrates the coexistence of both optical indirect and direct transitions and the shift of the absorption edges toward lower energies by increasing temperature in the range of 10-300 K. Band gap at zero temperature, average phonon energy and electron phonon coupling parameter for...
