5G technology is considered to bring dramatic improvements from the large scale data transmission to latency, from reliable data trasmission to energy efficiency. One significant improvement is expected in the communication rates between the mobile users at cell edges. Device-to-device (D2D) communication is an important technique to meet the higher data rates between the mobile users at cell edges compared to standard base station communication. In this paper, important decrease in the outage probability is presented in the limited regions on the cell edge when the D2D communication is used for cellular networks with multiple antennas. Moreover, the effects of the parameters of these regions on this decrease are examined.

Analysis and design of dual-polarized wideband patch antennas electromagnetically excited with elevated wide strips /
Yılmaz, Adil Fırat; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
In communication systems like WiMAX, WLAN, 3G, 4G and LTE, design of wideband and dual polarized antennas are required. It is known that bandwidth of patch antennas can be broaden by using thick air substrates. The bandwidth can be further improved by using three dimensional feed strucutures that are electromagnetically coupled to the patch. In this thesis, microstrip patch antennas that are excited by elevated wide strips are studied. First, a linearly polarized antenna is considered and the effects of ant...

Güngör, Ömer Fevzi; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Koçer, Fatih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
Massive MIMO and beamforming are technologies that may enable ultrafast 5G network. They are predicted to be used widely in next-generation high capacity communication systems. In the implementation of beamforming and MIMO, the large number of antennas and RF control components are utilized. However; some challenges related to power consumption, control complexity, cost, and size of transceiver have arisen. Vector Modulator (VM) may be one possible effective solution to these challenges because it merges th...
CodePipe: An Opportunistic Feeding and Routing Protocol for Reliable Multicast with Pipelined Network Coding
Li, Peng; Guo, Song; Yu, Shui; Vasilakos, Athanasios V. (2012-03-30)
Multicast is an important mechanism in modern wireless networks and has attracted significant efforts to improve its performance with different metrics including throughput, delay, energy efficiency, etc. Traditionally, an ideal loss-free channel model is widely used to facilitate routing protocol design. However, the quality of wireless links would be affected or even jeopardized by many factors like collisions, fading or the noise of environment. In this paper, we propose a reliable multicast protocol, ca...
Evaluation of Terahertz Channel in Data Centers
MOLLAHASANİ, Shahram; Onur, Ertan (2016-04-29)
Designing data center network topologies with the objective of minimizing cost, increasing bisection bandwidth and decreasing latency is a difficult problem. The solutions in the literature mainly concentrate on wired networks and minimizing wiring costs thereof. Only a few proposals address the benefit of employing wireless communications in data centers due to spectrum and bandwidth limitations of current wireless communication technologies. By using terahertz communication in a data center as a complemen...
Measurement-based replanning of GSM cell capacities considering retrials, redials and hand-offs
Onur, Ertan; Ersoy, C; Caglayan, MU (2002-01-01)
During the optimization of a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network, the operations and maintenance center (OMC) measurements are of significant importance. Because of false predictions, the capacity planning of a cell may be done inaccurately. If the capacity of the cell is not adequate to handle all of the busy-hour requests, the requests are not granted a channel and users are blocked. Thus, when the blocking ratio is high, the cellular capacity should be replanned. However, the capacity p...
