Massive MIMO and beamforming are technologies that may enable ultrafast 5G network. They are predicted to be used widely in next-generation high capacity communication systems. In the implementation of beamforming and MIMO, the large number of antennas and RF control components are utilized. However; some challenges related to power consumption, control complexity, cost, and size of transceiver have arisen. Vector Modulator (VM) may be one possible effective solution to these challenges because it merges the tasks of both phase shifter and attenuator. In other words, VM controls both amplitude and phase of RF signal with simple control and the reasonable cost and size. In this thesis work, the design of SOI-based RFIC vector modulator is presented. VM is targeted to operate in 20-25 GHz, possible 5G band. Vector modulator consists of passive parts, which are baluns, Lange quadrature coupler, Wilkinson in-phase combiner, and active parts, which are digital step attenuator (DSA) and switch matrix. Switch matrix and DSA, which are composed of active switches and resistances, are designed and optimized with Cadence Design System. Spiral Marchand baluns, Lange quadrature coupler and Wilkinson in-phase combiner are designed and simulated with Sonnet’s 3D Electromagnetic Software. Finalized VM design is simulated and results are presented. Final design has 6.5 dB insertion loss, better than 10 dB return loss, 48 dBm IIP3, 38 dBm input P1dB, 0.5 dB amplitude and 1-degree phase resolution in active regions, where outputs can take value.

Real-time intrusion detection and prevention system for SDN-based IoT networks
Sarıça, Alper Kaan; Angın, Pelin; Department of Computer Engineering (2021-9)
The significant advances in wireless networks with the 5G networks have made possible a variety of new IoT use cases. 5G and beyond networks will significantly rely on network virtualization technologies such as SDN and NFV. The prevalence of IoT and the large attack surface it has created calls for SDN-based intelligent security solutions that achieve real-time, automated intrusion detection and mitigation. In this thesis, we propose a real-time intrusion detection and mitigation system for SDN, which aims...
Usage of device-to-device communication with multiple antennas at the cell edges Çoklu antenli cihazdan cihaza haberleşme yönteminin hücre kenarindaki alanlarda kullanimi
Erkan, Kerem; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (2018-07-05)
5G technology is considered to bring dramatic improvements from the large scale data transmission to latency, from reliable data trasmission to energy efficiency. One significant improvement is expected in the communication rates between the mobile users at cell edges. Device-to-device (D2D) communication is an important technique to meet the higher data rates between the mobile users at cell edges compared to standard base station communication. In this paper, important decrease in the outage probability i...
Mobile traffic modelling for wireless multimedia sensor networks in IoT
Al-Turjman, Fadi; Radwan, Ayman; Mumtaz, Shahid; Rodriguez, Jonathan (2017-11-01)
Wireless sensor networks suffer from some limitations such as energy constraints and the cooperative demands essential to perform multi-hop geographic routing for real-time applications. Quality of Service (QoS) depends to a great extent on offering participating nodes an incentive for collaborating. In this paper, we present a novel traffic model for a new-generation of sensor networks that supports a wide range of communication-intensive real-time multimedia applications. The model is used to investigate ...
Scheduling algorithms for wireless cdma networks
Hakyemez, Serkan Ender; Schmidt, Şenan Ece; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
In recent years the need for multimedia packet data services in wireless networks has grown rapidly. To overcome that need third generation (3G) mobile services have been proposed. The fast growing demands multimedia services in 3G services brought the need for higher capacity. As a result of this, the improvement on throughput, traffic serving performance has become necessary in 3G systems. Code division multiple access (CDMA) technique is one of the most important 3G wireless mobile techniques that has be...
GreenSlice: An Energy-Efficient Secure Network Slicing Framework
Akin, Ozan; Gulmez, Umut Can; Sazak, Ozan; Yagmur, Osman Ufuk; Angın, Pelin (2022-02-01)
The fifth generation of telecommunication networks comes with various use cases such as Enhanced Mobile Broadband, Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications and Massive Machine Type Communications. These different types of communications have diverse requirements that need to be satisfied while they utilize the same physical infrastructure. By leveraging Software Defined Network (SDN) and Virtual Network Function (VNF) technologies, the 5G network slicing concept can provide end-to-end logical networks ...
