We consider the decay Z --> gamma-X where X is a new gauge boson corresponding to an extra U'(1) gauge group factor and find that its partial width can be as large as 5% (the experimental limit for the width of a new decay mode), providing the limit for the X-boson coupling constant: alpha'X less than or similar to 0.1 M(X)/1 GeV)2.

Search for scalar and tensor unparticles in the diphoton final state in cms experiment at the lhc
Akın, Ilina Vasileva; Zeyrek, Mehmet Tevfik; Department of Physics (2009)
We present a search for scalar and tensor unparticles in the diphoton final state produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10 TeV, with the CMS detector at LHC. The analysis focuses on the data sample corresponding to the integrated luminosity of 100 pb−1, expected to be collected in the first LHC run. The exclusion limits on unparticle parameters, scaling dimension dU and coupling constant lambda, and the discovery potential for unparticles are presented. This is the first simulation study o...
Search for supersymmetry (susy) wıth topologıcal varıables at the LHC
Ünal, Mesut; Zeyrek, Mehmet Tevfik; Çakır, Muammer Altan; Department of Physics (2015)
The primary purpose of this thesis is to compare the effects on signal significance of the topological variables, W-stransverse mass ($M^W_{T2}$) and topness, which would be used in Supersymmetry searches in the single lepton channels in the future collider experiments. In this thesis, Stau-coannihilation scenarios were used as signal samples along with the four major background events, $t\bar{t}$+jets, boson+jets, single top+jets, and diboson, of supersymmetric top squark pair production and cascade decays...
Search for flavor changing neutral currents in top quark decays in pp collisions at 7 TeV
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (2013-01-01)
The results of a search for flavor changing neutral currents in top quark decays t -> Zq in events with a topology compatible with the decay chain t (t) over bar -> Wb + Zq -> lvb + llq are presented. The search is performed with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The observed number of events agrees with the standard model prediction and no evidence for flavor chan...
The electronic band structure of III (in, al, ga)-v (n, as, sb) compounds and ternary alloys
Mohammad, Rezek Mahmoud Salim; Katırcıoğlu, Şenay; Department of Physics (2005)
In this work, the electronic band structure of III (In, Al, Ga) - V (N, As, Sb) compounds and their ternary alloys have been investigated by density functional theory (DFT) within generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and empirical tight binding (ETB) calculations, respectively. The present DFT-GGA calculations have shown direct band gap structures in zinc-blende phase for InN, InAs, InSb, GaN, and GaAs. However, indirect band gap structures have been obtained for cubic AlN, AlSb and AlAs com- pounds; he...
An investigation of x-ray escape for an HPGe detector
Can, Cüneyt; Bilgici, SZ (Wiley, 2003-07-01)
X-ray escape peaks for a planar HPGe detector were investigated for a point source of photons with 59.5 keV energy. The effect of the solid angle for the incident photons on the escape probability of Ge K x-rays was studied using collimators with varying apertures. A Monte Carlo program was also developed to estimate the probability of escape for various mechanisms and routes. The experimental and simulation results showed that the escape probability is essentially constant for a wide range of collimator ra...
