Effect of FMD vaccination schedule of dams on the level and duration of maternally derived antibodies
Sareyyupoglu, B.; Gulyaz, V.; Cokcaliskan, C.; Unal, Y.; Cokulgen, T.; Uzunlu, E.; Gurcan, S.; İlk Dağ, Özlem (Elsevier BV, 2019-11-01)
Vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in pregnant cows is crucial to produce greater immunity in new born calves, especially in late gestation, as this directly affects neonatal immunity. Therefore, we aimed to investigate how late gestation FMD vaccination of pregnant cows affects the maternally derived antibodies in their offspring. Pregnant cows were vaccinated with and without booster vaccination during the 3rd months (early gestation vaccination, EGV) or the 6.5th months (late gestation vacc...
Biophysical and microbiological study of high hydrostatic pressure inactivation of Bovine Viral Diarrheavirus type 1 on serum
CEYLAN, ÇAĞATAY; Severcan, Feride; ÖZKUL, AYKUT; Severcan, Mete; Bozoglu, Faruk; Taheri, Nusret (Elsevier BV, 2012-01-27)
The effect of high hydrostatic pressure application on fetal bovine serum components and the model microorganism (Bovine Viral Diarrheavirus type 1 NADL strain) was studied at 132 and 220 MPa pressure for 5 min at 25 degrees C. Protein secondary structures were found to be unaffected by an artificial neural network application on the amide I region for both untreated and HHP treated samples. FTIR spectroscopy study of both the HHP-treated and control samples revealed changes in the intensity of some bands i...
Isolation and molecular characterization of Salmonella enterica and Escherichia coli from poultry samples
Cesur, Aylin; Ulutas, Sacide Ozlem; Soyer, Yeşim (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2019-01-01)
Innumerable foodborne pathogens including Salmonella and Escherichia coli pose a serious threat to human health and food safety. As perishable foods, poultry products are considered one of the most common sources of foodborne pathogens including Salmonella and E. coli due to transmission of drug resistance, dissemination of organisms, and cross-contamination. In our study, phenotypic and genotypic characterizations of Salmonella enterica and E. coli isolated from packaged raw chicken products were carried o...
Vaccination of dairy cows with recombinant Streptococcus uberis adhesion molecule induces antibodies that reduce adherence to and internalization of S. uberis into bovine mammary epithelial cells
Prado, M. E.; Almeida, R. A.; Özen, Can; Luther, D. A.; Lewis, M. J.; Headrick, S. J.; Oliver, S. P. (2011-06-15)
Streptococcus uberis is an important environmental mastitis pathogen that causes subclinical and clinical mastitis in lactating and nonlactating cows and heifers throughout the world. Previous work from our laboratory suggests that S. uberis adhesion molecule (SUAM) is involved in S. uberis pathogenesis and may be an excellent target for vaccine development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antibody response of cattle vaccinated with recombinant SUAM (rSUAM). Uninfected primiparous dairy cows...
Intestinal Microbiota in Patients with Spinal Cord Injury
Gungor, Bilgi; Adiguzel, Emre; Gürsel, İhsan; Yilmaz, Bilge; Gürsel, Mayda (Public Library of Science (PLoS), 2016-01-11)
Human intestinal flora comprises thousands of bacterial species. Growth and composition of intestinal microbiota is dependent on various parameters, including immune mechanisms, dietary factors and intestinal motility. Patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) frequently display neurogenic bowel dysfunction due to the absence of central nervous system control over the gastrointestinal system. Considering the bowel dysfunction and altered colonic transit time in patients with SCI, we hypothesized the presence o...
