Kence, Aykut
The first record of Musca domestica calleva from Incekum. Antalya (Turkey) is presented. Multivariate comparison of the morphology as well as comparisons of mating behaviour and malathion resistance with other housefly populations support the diagnosis. The zoogeographical significance of this find is briefly discussed.

Discordance between ventral colour and mtDNA haplotype in the water frog Rana (ridibunda) caralitana, 1988 Arikan
Akın, Cigdem; Bilgin, Metin; Bilgin, Cemal Can (Brill, 2010-01-01)
The water frog form caralitana was first described as a subspecies of Rana ridibunda by Arikan (1988) from southwestern Turkey. Its orange ventral colour has been used as a diagnostic character since its description. After testing for a correlation between body size and ventral colour, we compared mtDNA and venter colour of adult specimens from 27 localities to assess the validity of this character for systematics of Anatolian water frogs. We mapped the distribution of each category and tested whether there...
First record of non-indigenous Botrylloides anceps (Herdman, 1891) species along the Turkish Levantine Coasts, Confirmed by DNA Barcoding
Temiz, Berivan; Karahan, Arzu (null; 2019-07-30)
There are nearly 3000 Ascidian species identified and they are all found in seas. However, the studies on tunicates on Turkish coasts are limited; thus, not much known about the ascidian fauna of Turkish Seas. In this study, presence of the Botrylloides anceps (Herdman, 1891) species along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey has been proven by application of DNA barcoding tool for the first time. Sampling was performed in coastal area of the Hatay-Konacık region on 26 September 2018. Mitochondrial Cytochrome ...
First record of late Campanian paieoceanographic and paieociimatic changes, Arabian platform, Mazidag-Mardin area, SE Turkey
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Sevinç; Kvacek, Jiri (2021-03-01)
The sedimentology, geochemistry and paleontology of the pelagic upper Campanian Maastrichtian Bozova Formation in the "Mazidag" (Mazidagi) - Mardin area, SE Turkey, reveal paleoceanographic and paleoecological changes for the first time. A 119.25 m -thick composite stratigraphic section is characterized by alternating marls, clayey limestones, shales, and black shales; no coarse siliciclastic admixture or turbidite intercalations were recorded in the section. Biostratigraphic data indicate the presence of t...
Exceptional maternal lineage diversity in brown bears (Ursus arctos) from Turkey
Cilingir, F. Gozde; Peksen, Cigdem Akin; Ambarli, Huseyin; Beerli, Peter; Bilgin, Cemal Can (Oxford University Press (OUP), 2016-02-01)
The genetic diversity and phylogeography of maternal lineages in Ursus arctos Linnaeus, 1758 (the brown bear) have been studied extensively over the last two decades; however, sampling has largely been limited to the northern Holarctic, and was possibly biased towards lineages that recolonized the vast expanses of the north as the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) ended. Here we report the genetic diversity and phylogeography of U.arctos from Turkey based on 35 non-invasive samples, including five from captive ind...
Comparative study of three simple molecular approaches in search of mtDNA haplogroup identification of domestic sheep
Yuncu, Eren; Demirci, Sevgin; Bastanlar, Evren Koban; Dogan, Sukru Anil; Tasdemir, Umut; Togan, İnci Zehra (Elsevier BV, 2013-08-01)
There are five (A-E) identified mitochondria, DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups (HPGs) in domestic sheep. In search of a quick and reliable HPG classification, three different molecular approaches were tested: the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method applied to mtDNA control region (CR), the single strand conformational polymorphism (SSCP) method applied to NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 (MT-ND2) and to NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (MT-ND4) regions. The results were evaluated comparatively to elucidat...
