Light trapping is essential for thin film solar cells to decrease the solar electricity cost. Aluminum induced texturing (AIT) is an alternative and effective method for light trapping. Various parameters effects the final surface morphology in AIT. However, surface morphology obtained by AIT method on glass is mostly formed in annealing process which occurs at temperatures above 500 degrees C. In this study, annealing process under N-2 ambient is investigated. A relevant model of evolution is formed. In addition, diffusion of Na during this process is covered. (C) 2016 The Authors. Surface texturing study with aluminum induced texturing method on soda-lime glass substrates for thin film solar cells
Ünal, Mustafa; Turan, Raşit; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
It is essential to employ an effective light trapping scheme to decrease the cost of produced solar electricity further in thin film solar cell technologies. There are several methods that can be used for light trapping and aluminum induced texturing (AIT) is one of them. The aim of this thesis study is to obtain highly effective light trapping interface via texturing of glass surface by AIT process. The resultant texture is affected by several parameters such as Al thickness, annealing time and temperature...
Investigation on the incorporation of quantum dot thin film layers in the organic and inorganic solar cell structures
Candan, İdris; Erçelebi, Ayşe Çiğdem; Parlak, Mehmet; Department of Physics (2016)
Thin films based photovoltaic solar cell technologies have the Shockley-Queisser limit for maximum efficiencies and these cells can only collect photon in the specific energy range due to their band gap. New approaches are needed to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of photovoltaic devices. Quantum dots (QDs) thin film layer inside any device structure is particularly attractive candidates to increase the PCE of solar cells due to their size adjustable band gap values, multiple exciton generatio...
Aluminum induced texturing of sandy and prism glasses: Combination of micro/nano texture with macro texture
Ünal, Mustafa; Donerscark, Ergi; Ozkol, Engin; Turan, Raşit (2017-08-01)
Aluminum induced texturing (AIT) is one of the most promising texturing methods, which can be applied on glass substrates for solar cell applications. Combination of different dimensional structures exhibits the opportunity to achieve enhanced light trapping schemes. Here in this study, float glass and macro textured sandy and prism glasses went through Aluminum induced texturing (AIT) process in order to enhance light management. Surface morphologies were investigated by FE-SEM and optical measurements in ...
Investigation Of The Device Properties Of Cztse Thin Films For Solar Cells
Bayraklı, Özge; Güllü, Hasan Hüseyin; Parlak, Mehmet (2016-10-02)
Thin Film Solar Cell has received a considerable attention in the photovoltaic industry. While the efficiency of thin film amorphous silicon is about %14, the efficiency of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) thin film based solar cells ,is very popular in the recent year, reached the value of %20. But CIGS based solar cells have some constraints such as its extensive and large scale production in terms of availability of its constituent elements. On the other hand, Kesterit based solar cells such as Cu2ZnSnSe4 (CZTSe) hav...
Seasonal variation of the monthly efficiencies of thin film PV modules
Özden, Talat; Turan, Raşit; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin (null; 2017-12-04)
Outdoor testing of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules must be carried out at different climates as PV power plants nowadays are installed and continues to be installed in many countries. Present study is outdoor testing results and analyses of 5 thin film modules in Ankara, Turkey. The analyses are carried out using monthly efficiencies of the modules that are derived using the energy yield and input. The average efficiencies of the CIS, CIGS and μc-Si/a-Si thin film modules are. We present the monthly and ave...
