The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mechanical behavior of different fixation methods used in bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO). Part I comprises of the results of the analysis for mandibular advancement, four different fixation configurations of six hole fragmentation mini plates with monocortical screws and lag screws and posterior loading conditions in the molar and premolar region. The finite element analysis method (FEA) appears suitable for simulating complex mechanical stress situations in the maxillofacial region. The mechanical behavior of selected lag screws with linear or triangular configuration and double parallel or single oblique six hole mini plates with monocortical screws were compared by FEA after 5 mm BSSRO advancement procedure.

Stress distribution of post-core applications in maxillary central incisors
Yaman, SD; Karacaer, O; Şahin, Melin (2004-01-01)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution in a maxillary central incisor restored with various post-core applications.
Mathematical modeling of horizontal two-phase flow through fully eccentric annuli
Ömürlü, Çiğdem; Özbayoğlu, Evren; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2006)
The primary objective of this study is to understand the mechanism, the hydraulics and the characteristics, of the two-phase flow in horizontal annuli. While achieving this goal, both theoretical and experimental works have been conducted extensively. The METU-PETE-CTMFL (Middle East Technical University, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department, Cuttings Transport and Multiphase Flow Laboratory) multiphase flow loop consists of 4.84 m long eccentric horizontal acrylic pipes having 0.1143m inner dia...
In vitro Comparison of Autoclave Polymerization on the Transverse Strength of Denture Base Resins
Durkan, Rukiye; ÖZEL, MEHMET BİROL; Bagis, Bora; Usanmaz, Ali (Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices, 2008-07-01)
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of autoclave polymerization on the transverse strength of denture base polymers. To this end, 30 rectangular test specimens were fabricated of two heat-polymerized denture base polymers. The test groups were: (I) control. i.e.. conventional water bath to polymerize result by heat at 100 degrees C for 30 minutes; (II) autoclave polymerization at 60 degrees C for 30 minutes followed by 130 degrees C for 10 minutes; and (III) autoclave polymerization at 60 degr...
Three-dimensional finite element analysis used to compare methods of fixation after sagittal split ramus osteotomy: setback surgery-posterior loading
Erkmen, E; Simsek, B; Yucel, E; Kurt, Aygül (2005-04-01)
We used three-dimensional finite element analysis to compare the biomechanical stability of bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomies fixed by tag screws with linear and triangular configuration, and double or single six-hole miniplates with monocortical screws after set-back operation. The three-dimensional finite element model contained 122,717 elements and 25,048 nodes. Posterior occlusal toads were simulated on the distal segments. MSC Marc software was used to calculate the stress fields on both the s...
Shape optimization of wheeled excavator lower chassis
Özbayramoğlu, Erkal; Söylemez, Eres; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
The aim of this study is to perform the shape optimization of the lower chassis of the wheeled excavator. A computer program is designed to generate parametric Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of the structure by using the commercial program, MSC. Marc-Mentat. The model parameters are generated in the Microsoft Excel platform and the analysis data is collected by the Python based computer codes. The previously developed software Smart Designer [5], which performs the shape optimization of an excavator boom by ...
