Size dependent stability and surface energy of amorphous FePt nanoalloy

2019-06-05
The effects of particle size (2-6 nm) and temperature (300-2700 K) on the stability and local structural evolutions of amorphous equiatomic FePt bulk/nanoalloys have been investigated by combining Embedded Atom Model (EAM) with classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method. The three dimensional (3D) atomic configuration of amorphous FePt NPs by means of Voronoi analysis reveals that, deformed bcc (d-bcc) and icosahedron (d-ico) type structures are most probable local atomic configurations for 2-6 nm sized Fe50Pt50 NPs both in liquid (1700 K) and glassy (300 K) states. It was shown that nano-scale phase separation takes place around 300 K for 2 nm sized FePt NPs that leads to formation of spherical core-shell segregated structure having Pt-Fe-rich core and Fe-rich surface. Compared to core region, more ordered and high dense configuration of atoms at the surface gives rise to decrease in surface entropy of NPs and hence bringing about surface energy anomaly with positive temperature coefficient above the glass transition temperatures. Below glass transition temperatures of the FePt nanoalloy particles, the thermodynamically stable amorphous phase (TSA) would appear. Glass transition temperature of amorphous Fe50Pt50 NPs increases with increasing particle size and eventually approaches to the glass temperature of bulk system for NPs diameters >= similar to 16 nm. Results of current predictions are in good qualitative and semi-quantitative agreement with other theoretical and experimental findings reported in the literature.

Computational modeling of isothermal decay curves of trapping centers in TlGaSeS layered single crystals
Kucuk, Ilker; Yildirim, Tacettin; Hasanlı, Nızamı; Ozkan, Husnu (Elsevier BV, 2010-10-08)
This paper presents a new approach based on multilayered perceptrons (MLPs) to compute the isothermal decay curves of trapping centers in undoped TlGaSeS layered crystals. The MLP has been trained by a Genetic Algorithm (GA). The results obtained using the MLP model were tested with an untrained experimental data. The comparison has shown that the proposed model can predict more accurately and easily the isothermal decay curves.
Annealing improvement on the localized states of plasma grown boron nitride film assessed through admittance measurements
ÖZDEMİR, Orhan; Anutgan, Mustafa; Aliyeva-Anutgan, Tamila; Atilgan, Ismail; Katircioglu, Bayram (Elsevier BV, 2009-05-05)
Boron nitride (BN) thin film was grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique and was investigated by UV-Visible transmission, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and ac conductance spectroscopies. Mainly the density of electronic localized states (D-it) at BN/Si interface was obtained by continuum and statistical models of ac conductance through an MIS structure (Al/BN film/Si). The origins of the electronic defects have been outlined and discussed within the frame of a nitrogen defic...
Liquid steel flow in continuous casting machine: Modelling and measurement
Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (Informa UK Limited, 2011-08-01)
Single phase (liquid steel) and two-phase (liquid steel and argon bubbles) three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic and heat transfer models were developed for the continuous casting machines of ArcelorMittal. The computational domains include tundishes, slide gates, submerged entry nozzles and moulds. The effects of buoyancy, tundish design, tundish practices, nozzle design and caster practices on flow structure were investigated. Mathematical modelling is discussed in detail. In addition, submeniscus...
Acoustic phonons scattering mobility and carrier effective mass in In6S7 crystals
Qasrawi, A. F.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2006-12-21)
Systematic dark electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient measurements have been carried out in the temperature range of 170-320 K on n-type In6S7 crystals. The analysis of the electrical resistivity and carrier concentration reveals the intrinsic type of conduction with an average energy band gap of similar to 0.75 eV The carrier effective masses of the conduction and valence bands were calculated from the intrinsic temperature-dependent carrier concentration data and were found to be 0.565m(0) and 2.020...
Lattice dynamical and thermo-elastic properties of M2AlB (M = V, Nb, Ta) MAX phase borides
Surucu, Gokhan; Gencer, Ayşenur; Wang, Xiaotian; Surucu, Ozge (Elsevier BV, 2020-04-05)
The structural, electronic, dynamic, and thermo-elastic properties of M2AlB (X = V, Nb, Ta) MAX phase borides were investigated using first principle calculations as implemented in the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP) with the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The obtained structural properties and formation energies showed the thermodynamic stability and synthesizability of M2AlB. The electronic band structures were determined and they revealed that these compounds had a metallic characte...
