Discussion of "Generalized head-discharge equation for flow over sharp-crested inclined inverted V-notch weir" by M. N. Shesha prakash and A. V Shivapur

Closure to "Broad-Crested weirs with rectangular compound cross sections" by M. Gogus, Z. Defne, and V. Ozkandemir
Goegues, Mustafa; Defne, Zafer; Oezkandemir, Volkan (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2007-11-01)
A series of laboratory experiments was performed in order to investigate the effects of width of the lower weir crest and step height of broad-crested weirs of rectangular compound cross section on the values of the discharge coefficient, the approach velocity coefficient, and the modular limit. For this purpose, nine different broad-crested weir models with rectangular compound cross sections and a model with a rectangular cross section were tested in a horizontal laboratory flume of 11.0 m length, 0.29 m ...
New Theoretical solution of stage-discharge relationship for slit weirs
FERRO, Vito; Aydın, İsmail (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2018-03-01)
In this paper, the flow-process of a slit weir was analyzed on the basis of a theorem of dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity theory. The theoretically deduced stage-discharge formula then was calibrated using experimental data obtained for a ratio between the weir and the channel width, ranging from 0.05 to 0.25. The deduced stage-discharge relationship allowed measuring discharge values characterized by errors that, for 98% of the measured values, were less than or equal to ±5%. The perform...
Analysis of one-dimensional ground-water flow in a nonuniform aquifer
Onder, H (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 1997-08-01)
A one-dimensional (1D) flow, resulting from a sudden rise or decline in the water stage of a flood channel in a composite aquifer, which consists of two different regions separated by a linear discontinuity parallel to the channel, is considered. Governing equations are solved analytically for appropriate initial and boundary conditions. The obtained solution allows the determination of water level fluctuations in both regions of the composite aquifer and the time-dependent flow rate to (or from) the aquife...
Analysis of cellulase and polyphenol oxidase production by southern pine beetle associated fungi
Valiev, Abduvali; Ögel, Zümrüt Begüm; Klepzig, Kier D. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2009-09-01)
In this study, the production of extracellular enzymes by fungi associated with southern pine beetle was investigated for the first time. Cellulase and polyphenol oxidase production were analyzed for three beetle associated fungi. Only the mutualistic symbiont Entomocorticium sp. A was found to produce cellulases and polyphenol oxidase. In time course analyses of cellulase production in batch cultures, Entomocorticium sp. A showed maximum activity of 0.109 U/ml and 0.141 U/ml for total cellulase and endoglu...
