This study reports a comparative study on electrochromic properties of two donoracceptordonor (DAD)-type polymers namely poly(2-heptyl-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-benzo [d]imidazole) (BImTh) and poly(4,7-bis(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b] [1,4]dioxin-5-yl)-2-heptyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole) (BImEd). DAD-type monomers were polymerized electrochemically on indium tin oxide-coated glass slides to determine the optical properties of the polymers. Electrochemical rho-doping experiments were performed to determine the band gap and absorption band values of the polymer films at different redox states. Polymerization of BImTh and BImEd yields multichromic polymers. Donor and acceptor effects are studied by comparing the PBImEd and PBImTh with corresponding benzotriazole derivatives. Electrochemical synthesis of new conjugated polymers based on carbazole and furan units
Oguzturk, H. Esra; TİRKEŞ, SEHA; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (2015-08-01)
In this study, synthesis of four new monomers; 3,6-di(2-furyl)-9H-carbazole (M1), 3,6-di(2-furyl)-9-ethyl-carbazole (M2), 2,7-di(2-furyl)-9-H-carbazole (M3), 2,7-di(2-furyl)-9-(tridecan-7-yl)-9H-carbazole (M4), was achieved via Stifle cross-coupling reaction. The monomers were electrochemically polymerized, via repetitive cycling in acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate electrolytic medium. Optical and electrochemical properties of the monomers and their corresponding polymers were investigate...
Nanocomposites based on recycled poly(ethylene terepthalate)
Tolga, Aslı; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
In this study, the effects of glycol type, organoclay type and concentration on the final properties of nanocomposites based on recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) was investigated. For this purpose, first recycled PET was glycolysed and after that unsaturated polyester-montmorillonite nanocomposites were synthesized by using three different types of glycols (i.e. ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG) and diethylene glycol (DEG)). As the first step, all the compositions were prepared by Cloisite 30B...
Thermal characterization of phenol and bisphenol-A based polybenzoxazines
Bagherifam, Shahla; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2009)
Although, several researches on synthesis and characterization of benzoxazines and polybenzoxazines have appeared in the literature, detailed studies on thermal characterization are still limited. In this study, polymerization and thermal degradation mechanisms of benzoxazines were investigated via direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Benzoxazine monomers prepared by reactions of phenol or bisphenol- A with aniline or methyl amine were analyzed to investigate the effects of the structures of phenyl and amine...
synthesis of a novel series of furan and fluorene containing monomers and their polymers
Güneş, Arzu; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar; Cihaner, Atilla; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2011)
In this study, a novel series of conjugated monomers containing furan and fluorene units; 2,7-di(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-9-one (FOF), 2-(2-(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (FFF), and 2-(2-(furan-2-yl)-9,9-dihexyl-9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (FHF) were synthesized and their electrochemical polymerization were achieved via potential cycling. Optical and electrochemical properties of the polymers, poly(2,7-di(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-9-one) (PFOF), poly(2-(2-(furan-2-yl)-9H-fluoren-7-yl)furan (PFFF) and poly(2-(2-(fu...
Synthesis of bistriphenylamine- and benzodithiophene-based random conjugated polymers for organic photovoltaic applications
CETIN, Asli; ISTANBULLUOGLU, Cagla; HACIOGLU, Serife Ozdemir; CEVHER, ŞEVKİ CAN; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Çırpan, Ali (2017-11-15)
In this study, donor-acceptor random polymers containing benzotriazole acceptor and bistriphenylamine and benzodithiophene donors, P1 and P2, were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling polymerization. The effect of bistriphenylamine moiety and thiophene -conjugated linker on electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and optical behaviors of the polymers were investigated. Optoelectronic properties and photovoltaic performance of the polymers were examined under the illumination of AM 1.5G, 100 mWcm(-2)...
