RELATIVISTIC BURGERS EQUATIONS ON CURVED SPACETIMES. DERIVATION AND FINITE VOLUME APPROXIMATION
Lefloch, Philippe G.; Makhlof, Hasan; Okutmuştur, Baver (2012-01-01)
Within the class of nonlinear hyperbolic balance laws posed on a curved spacetime (endowed with a volume form), we identify a hyperbolic balance law that enjoys the same Lorentz invariance property as the one satisfied by the Euler equations of relativistic compressible fluids. This model is unique up to normalization and converges to the standard inviscid Burgers equation in the limit of infinite light speed. Furthermore, from the Euler system of relativistic compressible flows on a curved background, we d...
Disparity disambiguation by fusion of signal- and symbolic-level information
Ralli, Jarno; Diaz, Javier; Kalkan, Sinan; Krueger, Norbert; Ros, Eduardo (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2012-01-01)
We describe a method for resolving ambiguities in low-level disparity calculations in a stereo-vision scheme by using a recurrent mechanism that we call signal-symbol loop. Due to the local nature of low-level processing it is not always possible to estimate the correct disparity values produced at this level. Symbolic abstraction of the signal produces robust, high confidence, multimodal image features which can be used to interpret the scene more accurately and therefore disambiguate low-level interpretat...

Displaceability of Certain Constant Sectional Curvature Lagrangian Submanifolds
Şirikçi, Nil İpek (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-10-01)
We present an alternative proof of a nonexistence result for displaceable constant sectional curvature Lagrangian submanifolds under certain assumptions on the Lagrangian submanifold and on the ambient symplectically aspherical symplectic manifold. The proof utilizes an index relation relating the Maslov index, the Morse index and the Conley-Zehnder index for a periodic orbit of the flow of a specific Hamiltonian function, a result on this orbit's Conley-Zehnder index and another result on the Morse indices...
