Acid curing and baking of bastnaesite ore and concentrate

1999-01-01
In this study, the hydrometallurgical evaluation of a rare earth ore as well as a concentrate obtained from this ore was done in the laboratory. For the mentioned study, a bastnaesite type rare earth ore located in Beylikahir in Turkey was used. The total rare earth oxide (REO) content of the deposit was estimated to be 1 million tons with an average concentration of 3.42% REO. The rare earths were contained in bastnaesite mineral. The other constituents of the ore were calcium fluoride (52.5%), barite (25.4%), calcite (2.8%) and minor amounts of thorium, iron, manganese, etc. The bastnaesite mineral occurred either as cement material between fluoride and barite particles or was intimately associated with these minerals. The rare earth elements were enriched considerably in sub-sieve sizes.

Pressure leaching of Sivrihisar-Yunus Emre nickel laterites
Seçen, Berk; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
The aim of this thesis study was to extract nickel and cobalt from Sivrihisar limonitic nickel laterite ore by high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) method under most economical operating parameters. Optimizing the conditions to yield a saleable quality mixed hydroxide product from the pregnant leach solution (PLS) was also investigated. To extract high amounts of nickel and cobalt from the laterite matrix; leaching duration, leaching temperature and sulfuric acid/ore ratio were studied at fixed conditions of ...
DEVELOPMENT OF LSF-BASED DUAL-PHASE CATHODES FOR INTERMEDIATE TEMPERATURE SOLID OXIDE FUEL CELLS
Babazadeh Dizaj, Ramin; Kalay, Yunus Eren; Öztürk, Tayfur; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2022-12-09)
In this thesis, a study was carried out on LSM-LSF composite cathodes for IT-solid oxide fuel cells. The study follows the previous work carried out on LSC113-LSC214 dual-phase and LSM/LSF/ScSZ composite cathodes, both developed for IT-SOFCs. The study involved the synthesis of active material, namely (La0.5Sr0.5)MnO3-δ (LSM), (La0.8Sr0.2)FeO3-δ (LSF), and Sc0.15Zr0.85O2-δ (ScSZ) via Pechini method. Symmetric cells were fabricated, and cathodes were characterized electrochemically via EIS measurements. For ...
EVALUATION OF PYRITIC TAILINGS FROM A COPPER CONCENTRATION PLANT FOR CALCAREOUS SODIC SOIL RECLAMATION
TOZSİN, Gülşen; Arol, Ali İhsan; ÇAYCI, GÖKHAN (2014-01-01)
This study was aimed to investigate the feasibility to use waste pyrite and sulphuric acid produced from waste pyrite for the reclamation of calcareous sodic soils. The final aim is to displace Na from an exchange complex and replace it with Ca, leading to a decrease in pH and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) and an improvement of soil structure. A fertility of the soil may also be enhanced by this technique since waste pyrite can be rich in several micronutrients. An additional advantage to this strate...
Hydrochloric acid pressure-oxidation of a pyrite concentrate from the Vaal Reefs East Gold Mine
Topkaya, Yavuz Ali (1999-04-01)
The extraction of refractory gold from pyrite concentrate by hydrochloric acid pressure oxidation was investigated on laboratory scale. The aim was for direct solubilization of refractory gold by chloride pressure-leaching without cyanidation.
High pressure acid leaching of turkish laterites
Kaya, Şerif; Kaya, Yavuz A.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
The aim of this thesis study was to investigate and find the most cost effective way of extracting nickel and cobalt into the pregnant leach solution (PLS) from Gördes lateritic nickel and cobalt ore by means of sulphuric acid leaching under high temperature and high pressure conditions. The high pressure acid leach (HPAL) experiments were conducted with nontronitic and limonitic types of Gördes lateritic nickel ore, respectively. Leaching experiments of nontronite ore have shown that almost all of the nicke...
