WEAK-COUPLING OPTICAL POLARON IN QW-CONFINED MEDIA

1991-06-17
The ground state of the Frohlich polaron is retrieved as a function of the degree of confinement in a three-dimensional quantum well with tunable barrier potentials. A unified overview of the binding energy interpolating between all possible confinement geometries is provided within the framework of the second-order perturbation theory.

THE GROUND-STATE DESCRIPTION OF THE OPTICAL POLARON VERSUS THE EFFECTIVE DIMENSIONALITY IN QUANTUM-WELL-TYPE SYSTEMS
YILDIRIM, T; Erçelebi, Ayşe Çiğdem (IOP Publishing, 1991-03-11)
Within the framework of the strong-coupling polaron theory the ground-state binding energy and the effective mass of the electron-LO phonon system is retrieved as a function of the effective dimensionality in a quantum-well confinement. The geometry we use is a three-dimensional parabolic potential box, the barrier slopes of which can be tuned so as to yield a unified characterization interpolating between the bulk, the quasi-two- and one-dimensional limits as well as the quantum-well box case.
THE TWO-DIMENSIONAL MAGNETO-POLARON IN THE STRONG-COUPLING REGIME
Erçelebi, Ayşe Çiğdem (IOP Publishing, 1989-04-03)
Within the framework of the strong-coupling polaron theory the problem of a two-dimensional electron coupled to LO phonons under an external magnetic field is studied. When a suitably modified coherent phonon state interrelating the magnetic field and the polaron counterparts of the problem is adopted, it is seen that the theory reproduces the desirable asymptotic limits attained by the perturbation or the usual adiabatic theories. Moreover, the theory indicates that an abrupt 'stripping transition' in the ...
Resonant Raman scattering near the free-to-bound transition in undoped p-GaSe
Hasanlı, Nızamı; Ozkan, H (Wiley, 2001-01-01)
Raman spectra of GaSe layered crystal have been measured using a He-Ne laser and temperature tuning the free-to-bound gap in the range 10-290 K. Resonance enhancement of E'((12)) mode has been observed for both incident and scattered photon energies equal to the free-to-bound transition energy.
Optical anisotropy in GaSe
Seyhan, A; Karabulut, O; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin; Aslan, B; Turan, Raşit (Wiley, 2005-09-01)
Optical anisotropy of the layer semiconductor GaSe has been studied by photoluminescence (PL) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The PL spectra are dominated by two closely positioned emission bands resulting from the free exciton and the bound exciton connected direct band edge of GaSe. Photoluminescence and transmission spectra of GaSe crystals have been measured for two cases in which the propagation vector k is perpendicular (k perpendicular to c) and parallel to the c-axis (k//c). Peak...
Subband structure and excitonic binding of graded GaAs/Ga1-xAlxAs quantum wells under an electric field
Sari, H; Ergun, Y; Elagoz, S; Kasapoglu, E; Sokmen, I; Tomak, Mehmet (Elsevier BV, 1998-01-01)
The effects of an applied electric field on subband energies and excitonic binding for a graded GaAlAs quantum well are calculated variationally within the effective mass approximation. The very sensitive dependence of subband energies on the applied field is calculated using a model potential profile and exact electron and hole wavefunctions. Our calculations have revealed the dependence of the energy shifts of subbands, and excitonic binding on the field direction in the graded quantum well. This permits ...
