A rectangular slit weir is designed for measurement of small (<0.005 m(3)/s) discharges. The discharge coefficient is determined experimentally using the measured discharges and the corresponding heads over the weir. The relationship between the discharge coefficient and all relevant dimensionless parameters is investigated. It is concluded that the discharge coefficient can be represented solely as a function of Reynolds number.

Nonlinear mixing length model for prediction of secondary currents in uniform channel flows
Aydın, İsmail (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2009-01-29)
A nonlinear turbulence model for numerical solution of uniform channel flow is presented. Turbulent stresses are evaluated from a nonlinear mixing length model that relates turbulent stresses to quadratic products of the mean rate of strain and the mean vorticity. The definition of the mixing length, based on a three-dimensional integral measure of boundary proximity, eliminates the need for solution of additional transport equations for the turbulence quantities. Experimental data from the literature for c...
Analysis of specimen size effects in inclined compression test on laminated elastomeric bearings
Topkaya, Cem (Elsevier BV, 2004-07-01)
Inclined compression test method is a practical way of determining the shear modulus of full-size laminated elastomeric bearings. Performing full-size bearing tests requires high-capacity testing machines. It may be possible to cut the specimens into smaller sizes for testing purposes. Limited amount of experimental data show that specimen size has a significant effect on the measured shear modulus. In this paper, the Haringx shear weak column theory is used to identify the important geometric specimen prop...
Nonlinear Fiber Modeling of Steel-Concrete Partially Composite Beams with Channel Connectors
Ozturk, Alper; Baran, Eray; Tort, Cenk (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2019-05-01)
A simplified nonlinear fiber-based finite element model of steel-concrete partially composite beams utilizing channel type mechanical shear connectors is developed in OpenSees framework. The interaction between steel beam and concrete slab is accounted for by introducing nonlinear zero length elements and rigid links. The channel shear connector response used in numerical models is based on the previously obtained experimental response from pushout tests. Accuracy of the numerical models in predicting the r...
Evaluation of cement mortars by ultrasound
Paksoy, Nesibe Gözde; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
Ultrasonic testing of concrete is often used for the assessment of its uniformity, strength, modulus of elasticity, durability and etc. therefore, the related parameters of testing such as the transducer frequency, the specimen geometry and etc. are well-known. On the other hand, most of the concrete properties are affected by the cement and the mechanical as well as some durability properties of cements are determined through cement mortars. Applications of ultrasound on determining the properties of cemen...
Closure to "Broad-Crested weirs with rectangular compound cross sections" by M. Gogus, Z. Defne, and V. Ozkandemir
Goegues, Mustafa; Defne, Zafer; Oezkandemir, Volkan (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2007-11-01)
A series of laboratory experiments was performed in order to investigate the effects of width of the lower weir crest and step height of broad-crested weirs of rectangular compound cross section on the values of the discharge coefficient, the approach velocity coefficient, and the modular limit. For this purpose, nine different broad-crested weir models with rectangular compound cross sections and a model with a rectangular cross section were tested in a horizontal laboratory flume of 11.0 m length, 0.29 m ...
