Conductive polymers with donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type units; benzothiadiazole acceptor unit and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and thiophene (Th) donor units, were investigated for immobilization of invertase. The polymers were prepared potentio-dynamically from their monomers, M-1 (Th-benzothiadiazole-Th), M-2 (EDOT-benzothiadiazole-EDOT), M-3 (Th-benzothiadiazoleEDOT) and a copolymer, which is a homolog to homopolymer of M-3, was prepared from M-1 and M-2. Invertase was trapped between a two layer-composite; DAD polymer and polypyrrole. The characterization of immobilized invertase was performed using a spectrophotometric method at 540 nm. Kinetic parameters, V-max, maximum reaction rate and K-m, Michaelis-Menten constant values of immobilized invertase in DAD type homopolymer (P-3), 0.95 mu mol min(-1) and 22.7 mM, respectively, are found between those of homopolymers P-1 and P-2 and are better than the copolymer. Polymers and copolymers exhibited a broad optimal temperature profile between 30 and 50 degrees C compared to the free enzyme. Optimum pH (5.0) is the same as for free invertase. The electrodes were found to be stable with 100% activity during one day for 40 consecutive measurements. As to the self-life, 25% of the initial activity was lost in the first ten days, then the electrodes were stable with 75% activity for a 40 day storage at 4 degrees C.

Impact modified polyamide-6/organoclay nanocomposites: Processing and characterization
Isik, Isil; YILMAZER, ÜLKÜ; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2008-02-01)
The effects of melt state compounding of ethylene-butyl acrylate-maleic anhydride (E-BA-MAH) terpolymer and/or three types of organoclays (Cloisitel(R) 15A, 25A, and 3013) on thermal and mechanical properties and morphology of polyamide-6 are investigated. E-BA-MAH formed spherical domains in the materials to which it is added, and increased the impact strength, whereas the organoclays decreased the impact strength. In general, the organoclays increased the tensile strength (except for Cloisite 15A), Young'...
Electrochemical and Optical Studies of Furan and Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene End Capped Benzotriazole Derivatives

Two new 2-dodecyl benzotriazole (BTz) based donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type polymers were synthesized and characterized in terms of their electrochemical and spectral properties. These DAD type polymers were synthesized electrochemically from furan or thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (TT) endcapped BTz monomers. Furan based and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene based monomers showed monomer oxidations at 1.15 and 1.25 V, respectively, which eased the formation of conducting polymer films without overoxidation. Cyclic voltammetr...
Thermal degradation of poly(allyl methacrylate) by mass spectroscopy and TGA

Allyl methacrylate, AMA was polymerized in CCl4 solution by alpha,alpha'-azoisobutyronitrile at 50 degrees C. The thermal degradation mechanism of PAMA was characterized by MS, TGA-FT-IR and FT-IR-ATR methods. The mass spectrum and TGA thermogram showed two stage degradation. The first stage of degradation was mostly linkage type degradation for the fragmentation of pendant allyl groups at 225 - 350 degrees C. In the second stage, at 395 - 515 degrees C, the degradation is random scission and depolymerizati...
Electrochromic performance and ion sensitivity of a terthienyl based fluorescent polymer

A novel terthienyl based fluorescent polymer bearing strong electron-withdrawing substituents directly attached to the 3,4-positions of the central thiophene ring was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of diethyl 2,5-di(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophen-2-yl)thiophene-3,4-dicarboxylate. The corresponding polymer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The polymer has a well-defined redox process (E-p,E-1/2 = 0.74 V) and demonstrates a reversible electrochromic behavior; li...
Immobilization of Tyrosinase in Poly(2-thiophen-3-yl-alkyl ester) Derivatives
ÇAMURLU, PINAR; Kayahan, Senem; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Informa UK Limited, 2008-01-01)
In this study, construction of novel biosensors for the determination of phenolic compound was performed via immobilization of tyrosinase during the electrochemical synthesis of conducting block copolymers of 2-thiophen-3-yl-alkyl ester derivatives with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene and synthesis of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). The resultant biosensors were characterized in terms of their maximum reaction rates, Michaelis-Menten constants (Km), temperature and pH stabilities. All the copolymer mat...
