Conductive polymers with donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type units; benzothiadiazole acceptor unit and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) and thiophene (Th) donor units, were investigated for immobilization of invertase. The polymers were prepared potentio-dynamically from their monomers, M-1 (Th-benzothiadiazole-Th), M-2 (EDOT-benzothiadiazole-EDOT), M-3 (Th-benzothiadiazoleEDOT) and a copolymer, which is a homolog to homopolymer of M-3, was prepared from M-1 and M-2. Invertase was trapped between a two layer-composite; DAD polymer and polypyrrole. The characterization of immobilized invertase was performed using a spectrophotometric method at 540 nm. Kinetic parameters, V-max, maximum reaction rate and K-m, Michaelis-Menten constant values of immobilized invertase in DAD type homopolymer (P-3), 0.95 mu mol min(-1) and 22.7 mM, respectively, are found between those of homopolymers P-1 and P-2 and are better than the copolymer. Polymers and copolymers exhibited a broad optimal temperature profile between 30 and 50 degrees C compared to the free enzyme. Optimum pH (5.0) is the same as for free invertase. The electrodes were found to be stable with 100% activity during one day for 40 consecutive measurements. As to the self-life, 25% of the initial activity was lost in the first ten days, then the electrodes were stable with 75% activity for a 40 day storage at 4 degrees C.

Electrochemical and Optical Studies of Furan and Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene End Capped Benzotriazole Derivatives

Two new 2-dodecyl benzotriazole (BTz) based donor-acceptor-donor (DAD) type polymers were synthesized and characterized in terms of their electrochemical and spectral properties. These DAD type polymers were synthesized electrochemically from furan or thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (TT) endcapped BTz monomers. Furan based and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene based monomers showed monomer oxidations at 1.15 and 1.25 V, respectively, which eased the formation of conducting polymer films without overoxidation. Cyclic voltammetr...
Nano-scale phase separation in amorphous Fe-B alloys: Atomic and cluster ordering
AYKOL, Muratahan; Mehrabov, Amdulla; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat (Elsevier BV, 2009-01-01)
Nano-scale phase separation encountered in metallic glasses is investigated for amorphous Fe80B20 and Fe83B17 alloys in an interaction field calculated via electronic theory of alloys in pseudopotential approximation combined with MC equilibration and reverse MC simulation. The phenomenon is identified regarding three topological aspects: (1) pure Fe-clusters as large as similar to 0.9 nm and pure Fe-contours similar to 0.72 nm thick are found to exist; (2) Fe-rich highly deformed-bcc regions are observed; ...
Comparison of Natural Halloysite With Synthetic Carbon Nanotubes in Poly(lactic acid) Based Composites

The objective of this study is to compare the mechanical properties, structure and degradability of the nanocomposites prepared with tubular nanofillers, halloysite (HNT) and carbon nanotube (CNT) in poly(lactic acid) (PLA), and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) toughened PLA (T-PLA) matrices. In the PLA matrix, CNT increased, whereas HNT decreased the tensile strength with increasing filler content. Also, the elongation at break and impact strength decreased with increasing CNT content, but these properties...
Polyacrolein with microspherical structure obtained by radiation-initiation and base catalysis
Usanmaz, Ali; Dogan, Recep Dursun (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1990-3)
Acrolein was polymerized by radiation and base catalyzed condensation. Radiation polymerization was carried in bulk form under vacuum and air atmosphere at several temperatures. The conversion reached close to 100%, and polymers were free flowing white powders up to 5% conversion at −15°C, up to 80% at higher temperatures and up to 10% in air atmosphere polymerization. Radiation polymerization from aqueous solutions of various pH and from acetone solutions gave white powder polymers with limiting conversion...
Indium tin oxide nanoparticles as anode for light-emitting diodes
Çırpan, Ali (Wiley, 2006-02-15)
Thin films of indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles have been investigated as anode materials for polymer light-emitting diodes. A luminance efficiency (0.13 cd/ A), higher than that (0.09 cd/A) obtained in a control devices fabricated on conventional commercial ITO anodes were found. The thin films were made by spin coating of a suspension followed by annealing. The ITO nartoparticle films have a stable sheet resistance of 200 ohm/sq, and an optical transmittance greater than 86% over the range of 400-1000 ...
