COARSENING OF DELTA' (AL3LI) AND COMPOSITE PRECIPITATES IN AN AL-2.5-PERCENT LI-0.15-PERCENT ZR ALLOY

1994-01-01
The early stage coarsening behaviour of delta' (Al3Li) precipitates and composite precipitates, consisting of beta' (Al3Zr) core enveloped by a delta' shell, in an Al-2.5% Li-0.1 5% Zr alloy has been studied at 443, 473 and 503 K by conventional transmission electron microscopy using superlattice dark-field images. Coarsening kinetics of delta' precipitates was found to exhibit considerable deviation from the t1/3 law corresponding to diffusion control at 473 and 503 K. This deviation may be explained either by the operation of a surface-reaction controlled coarsening mechanism represented by t1/2 law, or by the presence of a slower precoarsening stage preceding diffusion-controlled coarsening. The particle-size distributions of delta' precipitates were not in accordance with either the earlier theoretical predictions or the normal distribution. They were symmetrical or slightly skewed to the left, and particle sizes twice the average were observed. The coarsening kinetics of composite precipitates, was found to be rather different from that of delta'; a diffusion model which yields t1/n law with n changing from 1/4 to 1/6 as the coarsening progresses, was predicted. The composite precipitates have exhibited quite a narrow and rather symmetrical size distribution.

Optical characteristics of Bi12SiO20 single crystals by spectroscopic ellipsometry
Isik, M.; Delice, S.; Nasser, H.; Hasanlı, Nızamı; Darvishov, N. H.; Bagiev, V. E. (Elsevier BV, 2020-12-01)
Structural and optical characteristics of Bi12SiO20 single crystal grown by the Czochralski method were investigated by virtue of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements. XRD analysis indicated that the studied crystal possesses cubic structure with lattice parameters of a = 1.0107 nm. Spectral dependencies of several optical parameters like complex dielectric constant, refractive index, extinction and absorption coefficients were determined using ellipsometry experiments perform...
Plastic deformation induced microstructure evolution through gradient enhanced crystal plasticity based on a non-convex Helmholtz energy
Klusemann, Benjamin; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay (Elsevier BV, 2013-09-01)
A gradient crystal plasticity model in the framework of continuum thermodynamics and rate variational formulation is presented for the description of plastic deformation patterning in a system with non-convex energetic hardening. The paper focuses on the extension of the 1D deformation patterning analysis of Yalcinkaya et al. (2011) to 2D for monotonic loading histories. Solution algorithm is based on the simultaneous solution of displacement and plastic slip fields, which have been considered as primary va...
Hot-pressed hydroxylapatite/monoclinic zirconia composites with improved mechanical properties
Evis, Zafer (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-04-01)
Composites of hydroxylapatite (HA) and monoclinic zirconia were hot-pressed at 1100 degrees C and 1200 degrees C under vacuum to study the phase transformations and the mechanical properties. X-ray diffraction results showed a higher phase transformation from monoclinic-ZrO2 to tetragonal-ZrO2 when the sintering temperature increased from 1100 degrees C to 1200 degrees C. HA decomposed faster when the amount of ZrO2 in the composites increased. Moreover, small amount of alpha-TCP and CaZrO3 was observed in ...
GERMANIUM NANOCLUSTERS - CHEMICAL-VAPOR-DEPOSITION OF DIGERMANE IN ZEOLITE-Y AND MORDENITE
DAG, O; KUPERMAN, A; OZIN, GA (Wiley, 1994-02-01)
Uniform arrays of intrazeolite germanium nanoclusters have been produced by the topotactic chemical vapor deposition of digermane within the diamond network of alpha-cages of acid zeolite Y and the main channel of mordenite. The conditions within the zeolite hosts ensure that the Ge2H2 CVD-type anchored precursors self-assemble to produce the anchored (Ge8)n+ nanoclusters shown in the Figure.
Sintering and humidity-sensitive behaviour of the ZnCr2O4-K2CrO4 ceramic system
Bayhan, M; Hashemi, T; Brinkman, AW (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-12-15)
Solid state reaction at elevated temperatures and the sintering behaviour of zinc chromite formed by zinc oxide and chromite oxide were investigated. Crystalline structure, surface and fractured morphologies and humidity-sensitivity characteristics of ZnCr2O4-K2CrO4-CuO were studied. The fired ceramic body, which proved to be mainly constructed from ZnCr2O4 spinel grains, was porous. The humidity characteristics of the sensor showed that the resistance decreased as a logarithmic function with an increase in...
