An intelligent control algorithm pipeline is proposed to eliminate the effects of variation of physical properties of sheet metals on bending. This pipeline can be applied to any conventional press brake without the necessity of additional sensors and/or equipment. The overall pipeline is capable of extracting features representing sheet metal during bending in an online manner, classifying it accordingly, running a neural network model specific to the classified material, and calculating the correct punch displacement in order to eliminate springback effect. Moreover, algorithm pipeline can also decide whether the material processed is already in the material database or not. If the material is not in the material database, it directs the user in order to generate a quick reference model for completing the bending procedure and adds this model in the material database. The overall algorithm pipeline provides an autonomous approach to material bending and saves time by eliminating tedious calibration and bending iterations. (C) 2017 The Authors. A numerical method for predicting depth of heat affected zone in EDM process for AISI H13 tool steel
Shabgard, M. R.; Seyedzavvar, M.; Oliaei, S. Nadimi Bavil; Ivanov, A. (2011-07-01)
This study presents a finite element model (FEM) to model temperature distribution for AISI H13 tool steel workpiece in electrical discharge machining (EDM) at different machining parameters (pulse current, pulse on-time, temperature-sensitive material properties, size of heat source, and material flushing efficiency). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) and micro-hardness tests were used to validate accuracy of FEM predictions. Increasing pulse on-time leads to a higher de...

A novel amperometric biosensor based on a conducting polymer using multi walled carbon nanotube modified electrode was developed for detection of organophosphorus pesticides. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) was successfully immobilized by covalent linkage on the modified graphite electrode. Carbon nanotubes were functionalized by electrochemical treatment. A conducting polymer; poly(4-( 2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzenamine) (poly( SNS-NH2)) was synthesized via electropolymerization to examine its ma...
A Self-Supervised Decision Fusion Framework for Building Detection
Senaras, Caglar; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay (2016-05-01)
In this study, a new building detection framework for monocular satellite images, called self-supervised decision fusion (SSDF) is proposed. The model is based on the idea of self-supervision, which aims to generate training data automatically from each individual test image, without human interaction. This approach allows us to use the advantages of the supervised classifiers in a fully automated framework. We combine our previous supervised and unsupervised building detection frameworks to suggest a self-...
A New Flicker Contribution Tracing Method Based on Individual Reactive Current Components of Multiple EAFs at PCC
Altintas, Erinc; Salor, Oezguel; ÇADIRCI, IŞIK; Ermiş, Muammer (2009-10-08)
In this paper, a new flicker contribution tracing method has been proposed to determine the individual flicker contributions of multiple electric arc furnace (EAF) loads to the flicker measured at the point of common coupling (PCC). The proposed method decouples the flicker contribution of the interconnected electricity system from the individual contributions of the loads connected to the measured PCC, using the individual current variations of the loads, and the estimated short-circuit system impedance. I...
A new boundary element formulation for wave load analysis
Yalcin, O. Fatih; Mengi, Yalcin (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-10-01)
A new boundary element (BEM) formulation is proposed for wave load analysis of submerged or floating bodies. The presented formulation, through establishing an impedance relation, permits the evaluation of the hydrodynamic coefficients (added mass and damping coefficients) and the coefficients of wave exciting forces systematically in terms of system matrices of BEM without solving any special problem, such as, unit velocity or unit excitation problem. It also eliminates the need for scattering analysis in ...
