A two‐dimensional model for studying the miscibility of binary liquid mixtures is proposed. The parameters are optimized so that the phase separation can be observed. The degree of mixing is investigated by the distribution functions and the structural drawings of the system at equilibrium. It is shown that immiscible liquid mixtures can be “remixed” by the addition of small chains with polar ends.

MONTE-CARLO SIMULATION STUDIES OF BINARY-MIXTURES - A MEASURE OF THE MIXING
Karaaslan, Hasan (1994-01-01)
A Monte Carlo algorithm tailored to fast equilibration of binary mixtures is applied to Lennard-Jones fluids and solids. In order to study phase transitions as functions of interaction parameters as well as of the temperature, a measure of the mixing is defined which is based on the normalized differences of radial distribution functions. At all temperatures sharp transitions are observed when the ratio of the interaction strengths of like and unlike particles reaches a threshold value.
Studies towards synthesis of urea containing helical polymers
Çalışgan, Gizem; Akdağ, Akın; Doğan, Özdemir; Department of Chemistry (2016)
This thesis deals with design and synthesis of chiral polyurea type polymers. These polymers were analyzed with molecular mechanics that they could take a helical form. The polymers are polyurea type polymers and ureas are synthesized by treating isocyanates with amines. Starting from tartaric acid, ((4S,5S)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3- dioxolane-4,5diyl)dimethaneamine was synthesized. The other diamine was naturally occuring L-lysine. These diamine functionalized compounds were treated with pphenylene diisocyanate sy...
Coupled thermoviscoplasticity of glassy polymers in the logarithmic strain space based on the free volume theory
Miehe, Christian; Mendez Diez, Joel; Göktepe, Serdar; Schaenzel, Lisa Marie (Elsevier BV, 2011-06-15)
The paper outlines a constitutive model for finite thermo-visco-plastic behavior of amorphous glassy polymers and considers details of its numerical implementation. In contrast to existing kinematical approaches to finite plasticity of glassy polymers, the formulation applies a plastic metric theory based on an additive split of Lagrangian Hencky-type strains into elastic and plastic parts. The analogy between the proposed formulation in the logarithmic strain space and the geometrically linear theory of pl...
Numerical Implementation of Equivalence Principle Algorithm for Potentials
Farshkaran, Ali; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2018-07-13)
We present a novel implementation of the equivalence principle algorithm (EPA) applied to the recently developed potential integral equations (PIEs) for low-frequency problems involving perfect electric conductors. The equivalence integral equations are generalized and updated by including potentials, making it possible to use PIEs to formulate inner problems. The stability of the implementation is demonstrated on canonical objects.
Pseudospin symmetry solution of the Dirac equation with an angle-dependent potential
Berkdemir, Cueneyt; Sever, Ramazan (IOP Publishing, 2008-02-01)
The pseudospin symmetry solution of the Dirac equation for spin 1/2 particles moving within the Kratzer potential connected with an angle-dependent potential is investigated systematically. The Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used to solve the Dirac equation. All of the studies are performed for the exact pseudospin symmetry (SU2) case and also the exact spin symmetry case is given briefly in the appendix. Bound-state solutions are presented to discuss the contribution of the angle-dependent potential to the rel...
