Composite coatings have a wide range of application areas requiring improved mechanical and tribological properties. Due to its enhanced properties, Ni-Al2O3 electro-co-deposition rather than pure Ni electrodeposition was investigated. A typical sulfamate bath was used to evaluate the effects of current density on hardness and the amount of deposited Al2O3. It was found that increase in current density increases the hardness and deposited wt.% Al2O3 particles within the parameter ranges covered in this study. The linear sweep voltammetry results were used to support outcome.

Comparison of Structural Properties of Copper Deposits from Sulfate and Pyrophosphate Electrolytes
Arslan, Berna; ERDOĞAN, MUSTAFA; İmamoğlu, İpek; Karakaya, İshak (2013-11-01)
Aluminum is quite often plated to combine the advantages of the light metal with modified surface properties. In this study, copper strike electrodeposits obtained from cyanide and pyrophosphate strike baths were compared in terms of microstructure, and copper pyrophosphate strike was found to yield smoother deposits. Furthermore, about 50 µm thick copper depositions on the strike plated aluminum surface, were prepared from acid copper sulfate and copper pyrophosphate electrolytes to compare structural prop...
Formation of Titanium Dioxide Nanotube Arrays by Anodizing Ti6Al4V Alloy
Karakaya, İshak (The Electrochemical Society, 2014-04-01)
Titanium dioxide thin films of nanoporous structures have gained great interest due to their large surface area and high reactivity properties in their applications. One of the methods used to form titanium dioxide nanostructures is anodizing the surface of titanium in F- ion containing electrolytes. Effects of HF concentration (0.1 to 0.5 wt.%), anodizing potential (10 to 30 V) and time (30 to 180 minutes) on the titanium dioxide nanotube formation were investigated by anodically oxidizing Ti6Al4V alloy in...
Investigation of Au-Ag-Cu Alloy Electrodeposition to Electromechanical Systems
Cagan, Berkay; ERDOĞAN, METEHAN; Karakaya, İshak; Yilmaz, Cemil; Yurdakul, Burak (2020-04-01)
© 2020 ECS - The Electrochemical Society.Electromechanical systems, which provide electrical power and data connection between moving terminals require high conduction and erosion resistant surfaces. Transfers of electrical power and data are accomplished by the contact of drum and brush wires. The simultaneous electrochemical deposition of desired Au-Ag-Cu alloy compositions, which can be used to coat the brush wires, was investigated in this study. In the scope of the study, the static potential and cycli...
An Electrochemical Procedure to Form Metal Powders from Recycled Hard Particle Embedded Composite Cutting Tools
Altunbasak, Tansu; KUL, MEHMET; Karakaya, İshak (2017-06-01)
Used valuable particle embedded composite cutting tools, obtained by powder metallurgy techniques by mixing metallic powders with hard, abrasive particles were electrolyzed for reclamation of metallic powders and valuable particles. The effects of copper ion and sulfuric acid concentrations and pH of the electrolyte, current density and temperature on microstructure of produced copper powders were investigated in detail. Copper powders were characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron micr...
Nickel and Gold Coatings of Germanium and Kovar Substrates
Cetin, Yasin; ERDOĞAN, METEHAN; Demirci, Gokhan; Karakaya, İshak (2016-06-02)
The integration of germanium to other materials such as Kovar® (registered trademark of Carpenter Technology Corporation), an Fe-Ni-Co alloy, by soldering requires a surface preparation due to poor wetting characteristics of germanium. Coating (metallization) by successive electroplating of 3 mm wide nickel and gold frames well adhered to the outer edge of a circular germanium window and kovar body was applied to attain successful joining of germanium to kovar. Surface cleaning of parts to be joined or plat...
