AMPLITUDE EVOLUTION AND RUNUP OF LONG WAVES; COMPARISON OF EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL DATA ON A 3D COMPLEX TOPOGRAPHY
Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Synolakis, Costas E. (2004-06-12)
The runup of long waves on the sloping planes is described by the analytical solutions of the long wave equations with special initial conditions, proper approximations and boundary conditions. These studies are also compared with experimental data (Yeh et al. (1996); Lin et al. (1999); Yalciner et al. (2003)). Similarly the numerical methods solving governing equations with proper boundary conditions are also developed and compared with either analytical or experimental or field data for long wave propagat...
Drift spectra for inelastic shear frames
Etemadi, Ali; Gülkan, Hakkı Polat; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
In assessing the damage originating from strong ground motions in building frames, it is necessary to identify properly the post-yield hysteresis degrading behavior of structural components that are well correlated with structural response and in turn, with damage. Likewise, structural damage during the ground motion is due to excessive interstory drift ratio; hence more realistic estimation of interstory drift demands has a significant role in the seismic evaluation of frame buildings. Existing approaches ...
Momentum transfer continuum between preshape and grasping based on fluidics
Özyer, Barış; Erkmen, İsmet; Erkmen, Aydan Müşerref; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2012)
This dissertation propose a new fluidics based framework to determine a continuum between preshaping and grasping so as to appropriately preshape a multi-fingered robot hand for creating an optimal initialization of grasp. The continuum of a hand preshape closing upon an object that creates an initial object motion tendency of the object based on the impact moment patterns generated from the fingers is presented. These motion tendencies should then be suitable for the proper initiation of the grasping task....
