We study the effect of one-dimensional lattice compression on photoriic band diagram and apply it to form a superlattice in order to obtain zero-Ti gap. Modulated hexagonal lattice has the ability to provide both positive and negative effective refractive indices. We analyze the dispersion characteristics in case the positions of holes in the lattice are varied in the orthogonal direction of applied light direction. We then compare modified structures with the conventional lattice and study the influence of the disorder on both photonic band structure and effective refractive index through numerical simulations. Proposed modulated photonic crystal introduces new ways of controlling light for on-chip applications. We show the benefit of this class of suggested devices in one particular structure, a zero-(n) over bar gap superlattice, for the sake of comparison with the recently reported structures. However, Other important implementations such as self-collimation, which may play a major role in photonic integrated circuits, can also benefit from these designs.

Zero-n gap design via modulation of hexagonal photonic crystal lattice
Moradi, Shahram; Kocaman, Serdar; Yüce, Emre; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
We study the effect of disorder in the lattice on a photonic band diagram and apply it to form a superlattice in order to examine negative refractive index and finally obtain zero-ñ gap. In addition, the novelty of suggested modulated PhC introduces new ways of controlling light through the complicated lattices. The aim of this approach is to have a deep understanding of dispersion characteristics dependence on the lattice structure by comparing modified structures with conventional lattice types. We design...
Linewidth narrowing and purcell enhancement in photonic crystal cavities on an Er-doped silicon nitride platform
Gong, Yiyang; Makarova, Maria; Yerci, Selçuk; Li, Rui; Negro, Luca Dal; Vučković, Jelena (null; 2010-12-01)
Light emission from Er-doped amorphous silicon nitride coupled to photonic crystal resonators is studied. The results demonstrate Purcell enhanced Er absorption and linewidth narrowing of the cavity resonance with increasing pump power.
Variable Temperature-Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy With GaN/AlGaN Two-Dimensional Electron Gas (2DEG) Micro Hall Sensors in 4.2-425 K Range Using Novel Quartz Tuning Fork AFM Feedback
Akram, R.; Dede, A.; Oral, Ahmet (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2008-11-01)
In this paper, we present the fabrication and variable temperature (VT) operation of Hall sensors, based on GaN/AlGaN heterostructure with a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) as an active layer, integrated with quartz tuning fork (QTF) in atomic force-guided (AFM) scanning Hall probe microscopy (SHPM). Physical strength and a wide bandgap of GaN/AlGaN heterostructure makes it a better choice to be used for SHPM at elevated temperatures, compared to other compound semiconductors (AlGaAs/GaAs and InSb), whi...
Nonlinear intersubband optical absorption of Si delta-doped GaAs under an electric field
Yildirim, Hasan; Tomak, Mehmet (Wiley, 2006-10-01)
We study the nonlinear intersubband optical absorption of a single Si delta-doped GaAs sheet placed in the middle of a GaAs quantum well and subjected to an electric field. The Schrodinger and Poisson equations are solved self-consistently for various electric field strengths. The self-consistent solutions provide us with the correct confining potential, the wave functions, the corresponding subband energies and the subband occupations. The nonlinear optical intersubband absorption spectra are discussed wit...
Finite mean free paths and the electrical resistivity of liquid simple metals and binary alloys
Khajil, T. M. A.; Daver, Fugen; Tomak, Mehmet (Wiley, 1986-11-1)
The finite mean‐free‐path correction to the Ziman formalism of the resistivity for liquid metals and some binary alloys are calculated using the Ferraz‐March approach.
