A novel terthienyl based fluorescent polymer bearing pendant quinoxaline moieties directly attached to the 3-positions of the central thiophene ring was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of 4-((2,5-dithiophen-2-yl)thiophen-3-yl)pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline (TT-Q). The corresponding polymer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The polymer exhibits a reversible redox behavior (Ep(1/2) = 1.05 V) accompanied with a reversible electrochromic behavior; yellowish orange in the neutral state and green in the oxidized state. Band gap of polymer was found (E-g = 1.94 eV). Moreover, the sensitivity of both the monomer and its polymer towards metal cations was investigated by monitoring the change in the fluorescence intensity. Among various common ions, both the monomer and its polymer were found to be selective towards Fe3+ ions by quenching the fluorescence efficiency with a Stern-Volmer constant (K-sv) of (2.7 x 10(3) M-1) and (5.0 x 10(3) M-1) for monomer and polymer solutions, respectively.

Electrochromic performance and ion sensitivity of a terthienyl based fluorescent polymer
Atilgan, Nurdan; CİHANER, ATİLLA; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2010-04-01)
A novel terthienyl based fluorescent polymer bearing strong electron-withdrawing substituents directly attached to the 3,4-positions of the central thiophene ring was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of diethyl 2,5-di(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophen-2-yl)thiophene-3,4-dicarboxylate. The corresponding polymer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The polymer has a well-defined redox process (E-p,E-1/2 = 0.74 V) and demonstrates a reversible electrochromic behavior; li...
Synthesis and Characterization of a New Conducting Polymer Based on 4-(2,5-di-2-thiophen-2-yl-pyrrol-1-yl)-phthalonitrile
Yavuz, Arzu; Bezgin, Buket; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Wiley, 2009-12-05)
A new conducting polymer was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of 4-(2,5-di-2-thiophen-2-yl-pyrrol-1-yl)-2-phthalonitrile (SNS-PN). Electrochemical polymerization of SNS-PN was performed in acetonitrile/0.2M LiClO4 solvent/electrolyte couple. Characterizations of the resulting polymer P(SNS-PN) were carried out by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic techniques. Spectroelectrochemical studies revealed that P(SNS-PN) has an electronic band gap of 2.45 eV...
Preparation and characterization of a new CdS-NiFe2O4/reduced graphene oxide photocatalyst and its use for degradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation
Bagherzadeh, Mojtaba; Kaveh, Reyhaneh; Özkar, Saim; AKBAYRAK, SERDAR (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2018-10-01)
In this paper, CdS nanoparticles as a visible light active photocatalyst were coupled by NiFe2O4 and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to form CdS-NiFe2O4/rGO nanocomposite by facile hydrothermal methods. The CdS-NiFe2O4/rGO nanocomposite shows enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light illumination. In addition to improved photocatalytic performance, this prepared nanocomposite shows increased photostability and is magnetically separable from the aqueous medi...
Preparation and Comparison of Two Electrodes for Supercapacitors: Pani/CNT/Ni and Pani/Alizarin-Treated Nickel
Koysuren, Ozcan; Du, Chunsheng; Pan, Ning; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2009-07-15)
Polyaniline in emeraldine form was synthesized in the presence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and the electrochemical capacitance performance of thus formed composite as electrode material has been Studied. The polyaniline/carbon nanotubes (Pani/CNT) composite is found to result in a higher specific capacitance than that of either composite constituent, attributable to the double-layer capacitance behavior of the nanotubes in the Pani/CNT system. However, once assembled into a two-electrode cell, l...
Selective mercury uptake by polymer supported hydroxyethyl sulfonamides
Oktar, Ceren; Yılmaz, Levent; Ozbelge, H. Onder; Bicak, Niyazi (Elsevier BV, 2008-04-01)
Hydroxyethyl sulfonamide function supported on styrene-divinyl benzene (9% mol/mol) bead resin is presented as mercury selective reagent. The resin product with 3.49 mmol g(-1) of 2-hydroxyethyl sulfonamide content removes reasonable quantities of mercuric ions (0.83-1.64 mmol g(-1)) from aqueous solutions of HgCl2, Hg (CH3COO)(2) and Hg (NO3)(2), in non-buffered conditions. Experiments showed that, the resin is able to extract mercury selectively, in the presence of foreign ions such as Zn(II), Cd(II), Fe(...
