This paper investigates the relationship between energy and production at the industry level in an emerging market, Turkey, in a multivariate framework. The electricity consumption and value added relation is examined in the Turkish manufacturing industry, while also accounting for labor and fixed investment. We find that labor, fixed investment, electricity consumption, and value added are related via three cointegrating vectors. The VEC results indicate uni-directional causality running from electricity consumption to value added. Generalized impulse response and variance decomposition analyses confirm these results. Thus, energy input appears to be closely related to production. Hence, energy saving technologies and increased energy efficiency may increase the growth in manufacturing value added.

The Management of household indebtedness: changing forms of state intervention in Turkey in the post-2001 period
Kahraman, Erse; Bedirhanoğlu Toker, Pınar; Department of International Relations (2017)
This thesis examines the process of state intervention in consumer credit markets in Turkey in the post-2001 period. The larger parts of the population have gained access to financial markets over recent decades in capitalist societies. One aspect of this change has been rapid growth of consumer credit markets and concurrent rise in household indebtedness. The dominant approaches in the literature on household debt have mainly drawn their frameworks from the experiences of the advanced capitalist economies,...
The Determining Role of EU in Turkey’xxs Trade Flows: A GravityModel Approach
Erdil, Erkan; Bilici, Özgür (2008-01-01)
This paper aims to determine the role of EU in Turkey’s trade flows by using the gravity model. It also aims to test whether the Customs Union (of EU) that Turkey entered in 1996 made a deviation in Turkey’s trade flows. Regional trade agreements on the one hand create new trade opportunities (trade creation effect). On the other hand, these agreements may also lead to diversion from free trade (trade diversion effect). Turkey’s Customs Union agreement without becoming a member of EU provides a laboratory t...
The impact of the liberalization program on the price-cost margin and investment of Turkey's manufacturing sector after 1980
Metin-Ozcan, K; Voyvoda, Ebru; YELDAN, ALP ERİNÇ (2002-09-01)
In this paper we investigate the structural consequences of the post-1980 outward-orientation on the market concentration and accumulation patterns in the Turkish manufacturing industries. Using various panel data procedures over twenty-nine subsectors of Turkish manufacturing for the 1980-1996 period, we focus on three sets of issues: (1) the effect of openness on the extent of market concentration as measured in CR4 ratios; (2) the behavior of gross profit margins (markups) in relation to openness, concen...
The relationship between carbon dioxide and agriculture in Ghana: a comparison of VECM and ARDL model
Asumadu-Sarkodie, Samuel; Owusu, Phebe Asantewaa (2016-06-01)
In this paper, the relationship between carbon dioxide and agriculture in Ghana was investigated by comparing a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) and Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model. Ten study variables spanning from 1961 to 2012 were employed from the Food Agricultural Organization. Results from the study show that carbon dioxide emissions affect the percentage annual change of agricultural area, coarse grain production, cocoa bean production, fruit production, vegetable production, and the ...
