This paper presents the design of a highly flexible and programmable transmit beam-former ASIC using a high voltage (HV) 0.35 mu m CMOS technology to be flip-chip bonded to a 4 x 4 CMUT array for ultrasound therapeutic applications. However, proposed IC can be used as a transmitter circuitry in color Doppler 3D imaging applications. In our proposed chip, each CMUT element is provided by an 8-bit shift register, an 8-bit comparator, a one-shot circuit with adjustable pulse width, a programmable pulse train generator and a HV pulser circuit. The interface electronics can generate two types of outputs with programmable focusing delays to 16 ultrasound transducer elements in different modes: The first mode is for generating single pulses in which the one-shot circuits adjust the width of the pulses from a few nanoseconds to 650 ns with enough resolution for different operating frequencies of ultrasound transducer. The second one has been considered for generating controllable pulse trains with output frequencies in the range of 1-10 MHz. At final stage the amplitudes of single pulses or pulse trains are increased up to 45 V using HV pulsers. Using an external control system like FPGA, the pulser circuit fires correspondent CMUT element when its stored shift register value is identical with the value of global counter.

An on-die ultra-low voltage DC-DC step-up converter with voltage doubling LC-tank
Jayaweera, H. M. P. C.; Pathirana, W. P. M. R.; Muhtaroglu, Ali (IOP Publishing; 2016-12-01)
In this paper we report the design, characterization and verification of a novel on-die ultra-low voltage DC-DC converter circuit for energy harvester applications in 0.18 mu m complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The circuit self-starts, does not use off-chip components, and is thus suitable for use in highly integrated low cost systems. The first version of the design has a five-stage charge-pump stimulated by an oscillator with two center-tap inductors. It is validated on a test chi...
Comparative investigation of resonance characteristics and electrical size of the double sided SRR BC SRR and conventional SRR type metamaterials for varying substrate parameters
EKMEKÇİ, EVREN; Sayan, Gönül (EMW Publishing, 2009-01-01)
This paper introduces a planar µ-negative (MNG) metamaterial structure, called double-sided split ring resonator (DSRR), which combines the features of a conventional SRR and a broadside-coupled SRR (BC-SRR) to obtain much better miniaturization at microwave frequencies for a given physical cell size. In this study, electromagnetic transmission characteristics of DSRR, BC-SRR and conventional SRR are investigated in a comparative manner for varying values of substrate parameters which are thickness, the rea...
Modeling and fabrication of electrostatically actuated diaphragms for on-chip valving of MEMS-compatible microfluidic systems
Atik, Ali Can; Ozkan, Metin Dundar; Ozgur, Ebru; Külah, Haluk; Yıldırım, Ender (IOP Publishing, 2020-11-01)
This paper presents an analytical model to estimate the actuation potential of an electrostatic parylene-C diaphragm, processed on a glass wafer using standard microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) process technology, and integrable to polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based lab-on-a-chip systems to construct a normally-closed microvalve for flow manipulation. The accurate estimation of the pull-in voltage of the diaphragm is critical to preserve the feasibility of integration. Thus, we introduced an analytical m...
RC Performance Evaluation of Interconnect Architecture Options Beyond the 10-nm Logic Node
Kıncal, Serkan; Abraham, Mathew C.; Schuegraf, Klaus (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-06-01)
This paper summarizes the findings of an RC performance modeling approach for evaluating various material and architecture options by which interconnect wires are incorporated onto integrated circuits. For the present dual-damascene structure, the grain boundary and surface scattering modes are identified as the top contributors to resistance degradation, along with the cross-sectional area consumed by the liner/barrier layers. Self-forming barriers, a technology that provides direct Cu-insulator interfaces...
Hybrid connection of RF MEMS and SMT components in an impedance tuner
Unlu, Mehmet; Topalli, Kagan; Atasoy, Halil Ibrahim; Demir, Şimşek; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Akın, Tayfun (Elsevier BV, 2010-01-01)
This paper presents a systematic construction of a model for a hybrid connected RF MEMS and SMT components in a reconfigurable impedance tuner. The double stub hybrid impedance tuner which employs a high number of MEMS switches is selected to demonstrate the feasibility of the connections. In the hybrid tuner, MEMS switches are actuated with DC bias signals, where SMT resistors de-couple RF from the DC lines. The hybrid tuner is realized in two steps, where the MEMS impedance tuner is fabricated on a glass ...
